Keenan, Isler and Krodel turn in scoreless innings
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 28, 2026) - The Daytona Tortugas overcame a mid-game 4-0 deficit to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 6-5 on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The series is now tied 2-2 heading into the weekend.
Drew Davies broke a 5-5 tie when he hit the first pitch of the bottom of the seventh for a home run off Brett Banks to put the Tortugas ahead 6-5.
Tortugas reliever Jesus Colina stranded a runner on second base in the eighth inning and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the six-out save.
The Mets scored the first four runs of the game. Yovanny Rodriguez hit a two-out, two-run single off Ryjeteri Merite in the first inning to put the Mets up 2-0.
Rodriguez hit a sac fly with the bases loaded in the third inning to up the Mets lead to 3-0.
Branny De Oleo hit a solo home run, his eighth of the season, off Justin Henschel in the fourth inning to make it 4-0.
Mets drafted pitchers Aiden Keenan (7th round - Stanford), Nate Isler (10th round - Dartmouth) and AJ Krodel (12th round - UC Santa Barbara) each pitched a scoreless inning.
Jonathan Jimenez took over in the fourth and got a double play and strikeout. But Jimenez struggled to get the last out of the fifth. He gave up four straight two-out hits as the Tortugas scored five runs to take the lead. Sherman Johnson hit a two-run single to make it 4-2. Two batters later Vai Levu hit a two-run single to tie the game 4-4. Levu advance to second on a throwing error. Arnaldo Lantigua then singled home Levu for an unearned run to put Daytona ahead 5-4.
The Mets briefly tied the game in the seventh inning. Ryan Tayman hit a leadoff double and went to third on a single by Kuhio Aloy. Tayman then scored on a passed ball to make it 5-5.
Davies made sure the tie was short lived. His home run to start the seventh inning was his seventh of the year, fourth against St. Lucie this season and second this series.
Jake Ogden led the Mets in hits by going 2 for 5.
Aloy reached base four times on a single and three walks.
Rodriguez was 1 for 4 with three RBI.
Henschel pitched 5.0 innings of long relief to get the win. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts.
The Mets (20-37, 53-70) and Tortugas (35-22, 56-67) play the fifth game of their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Saturday. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
