AP Sports: "Marcus Semien hit a three-run homer, rookie Zac Thornton pitched five scoreless innings and the New York Mets matched a season high with their fourth straight win by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 on Friday night."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "Semien hit his 14th homer of the season in the third, his second in as many games. A.J. Ewing went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and Carson Benge went 2-for-2 with two RBI before leaving the game with a sore left wrist. X-rays were negative. The Mets will do more tests Saturday to determine if he can play the rest of the series. It was “stiff” following the game."

SNY.TV: "As for Thornton, the 24-year-old ran into his first trouble of the night in the fourth after a single and a walk, but escaped unharmed after a much more conventional 6-4-3 double play. In the fifth, the lefty had runners on the corners with two outs but retired his final batter to finish five scoreless innings on just 63 pitches (42 strikes). He lowered his ERA to 2.42."

Mike Puma NY Post: "Dedniel Nunez, extended to pitch a second inning, was charged for two runs in the seventh. Lefty Jefry Yan got all three outs in the inning in a second straight solid outing to begin his major league career."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Devin Williams made his first appearance after sitting out with a tired arm and was not particularly sharp. He allowed two runs in the ninth inning and only a fine play by Brett Baty in right field, corralling a ball hit high off the wall and throwing out the runner at second base, kept it from being even worse."

1970	Five years after the Mets bestow the honor to their first skipper, the Yankees retire Casey Stengel's uniform #37 during Old Timers Day at the Stadium. The 'Old Perfessor,' who won seven World Series during his twelve-year tenure with the team, managed the Bronx Bombers from 1949 to 1960.
2014	Bartolo Colon joins Juan Marichal and Pedro Martinez in becoming the third hurler from the Dominican Republic to win 200 major league games. The 40-year-old portly right-hander accomplishes the feat when he goes eight innings, giving up six hits and one run, in the Mets' 5-4 victory over Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park, 5-4.

1965: In New York‚ the Cubs score 6 runs in the 9th inning to whip the Mets‚ 14 - 10. Chris Krug is not much help in the 9th‚ as the Cubbie strikes out twice. It's the first time since 1922 a Cub has K'ed twice in one inning. 

1984 The Cubs tighten their grip on first place in the NL East with a 7 - 6 win over the Mets at Wrigley Field‚ completing a four-game series sweep. Keith Moreland leads the way with 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Hubie Brooks is 4 for 4 with 4 runs for New York. Davey Johnson gets tossed in the 7th after Bob Dernier gets hit by a pitch‚ a continuation of yesterday's beanballing. Cubs manager Jim Frey follows Johnson in the 9th when Lee Smith throws behind George Foster. 

1985: Keith Hernandez has 5 hits in the Mets' 20-hit attack as they beat the Expos‚ 14 - 7. Rick Aguilera is the winner. 

2004: The Cardinals defeat the Mets‚ 6 - 2‚ as Edgar Renteria gets 5 hits for St. Louis.
