Once again we breakdown the Mets contingent to the Arizona Fall League. RHP Irving Cota is another player that was limited by injuries in 2026. Irving threw just 31.1 innings last year after throwing 98.2 innings in 2025.
The Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, native was signed as an International Free Agent in April 2023. He has been impressive at times featuring a 4-Seam Fastball (92-94), Sinker (93 MPH), Slider (79-81), Sweeper (75-77) and Changeup (81-83). He has shown good breaking stuff with lots of movement while at the same time maintaining a low walk rate.
On January 12, 2026 Baseball America named Irving Cota as having the Best Control in the Mets System.
According to FanGraphs, Cota is Rule 5 Eligible this December. If he is left available for the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft and shows that he is healthy this Fall, he could be selected this December.
