LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn captured the win on Sunday, 5-2, to earn a series split against the Renegades and remain in the playoff race...The victory snapped a two-game skid...Four different Brooklyn relievers combined on 5.2 innings of four-hit, scoreless ball...SS Sammy Stafura launched his first two homers as a Cyclone, a mere 45 minutes from where he played his high school ball at Walter Panas...Brooklyn erased a 2-0 deficit, scoring five unanswered runs en route to the win...The 'Clones enter this week's series against Frederick 4.5 games back of Greensboro for the final playoff spot.
25th ANNIVERSARY: The Cyclones celebrate their 25th anniversary season in 2026...Since the inaugural 2001 campaign, Brooklyn has captured three league titles...The Cyclones shared the New York-Penn League crown with the Williamsport Crosscutters in their first season before taking home the final NYPL title in 2019...Brooklyn captured its first full-season championship in 2025, going 4-0 in the postseason against Greensboro and Hub City.
DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME: Brooklyn returns home to face the Keys for the final series of the regular season with little room for error...As of Tuesday, the Cyclones are 4.5 games back (four in the loss column) of Greensboro for the final postseason spot...Including Greensboro, Brooklyn would need to hop over three teams in the North Division standings as Hudson Valley (2.0 GB) and Wilmington (3.0) hold a slightly better record...The Renegades and Blue Rocks play one another from Delaware this week.
ROSTER MOVES: OF Aiden Robbins joined the Cyclones for the final week of the regular season...The 21-year-old was the Mets third round pick (No. 92 overall) in the 2026 MLB Draft...Joined St. Lucie after a standout junior season at Texas...The 21-year-old outfielder hit .333/.426/.696/1.122 with 24 home runs and 64 RBI in 60 games for the Longhorns, earning SEC Newcomer of the Year honors and All-America recognition...Robbins hit four home runs and drove in 16 runs in 20 games with St. Lucie, including a stretch with four home runs in a seven-game span from August 15-27, and a four-RBI performance in his final game at the level on Aug. 30...The Yardley, Pa., native spent his first two collegiate seasons at Seton Hall, where he hit .378 during his time in South Orange...Additionally, Brooklyn has added RHP Ryan Lambert on minor-league rehab...The flamethrower pitched seven games out of Brooklyn's bullpen last year, logging a tidy 1.13 ERA...The Minnesota native was placed on the IL back on July 18.
HURT-ADO LOCKER: LHP Daviel Hurtado has been brilliant since joining the Cyclones...The Cuban-born starter tossed 5.2 innings, allowing just one unearned run in the South Atlantic League's most hitter-friendly ballpark in Asheville last Sunday...Hurtado had gone 13.0 innings without allowing an earned run before Hudson Valley's 1st inning run on Saturday, and he has a 3.04 ERA in five August appearances (four starts)...Since making his High-A debut on May 26, the 21-year-old is among the best arms in the South Atlantic League...Hurtado leads the SAL in ERA (2.83), batting average against (.189), WHIP (1.01), and opposing OPS (.544) since that date...He is also tied for second in double plays (7), tied for fifth in wins (5), and tied for ninth in strikeouts (67)...Hurtado also closed out the win on August 2 with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to earn his first career save...Hurtado was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for June, collecting a 4-1 mark with a 2.03 ERA (6 ER in 26.2 IP) over five starts...He walked only four and struck out 26, while scattering 11 hits.
TREY BALL: OF Trey Snyder has broken out during the Cyclones' two-week road trip...The 20-year-old picked up two more hits on Saturday at Hudson Valley, his seventh multi-hit game in 11 games on the road trip...During the two weeks away from Coney Island Snyder went 17-for-48 (.354/.382/.479/.861) with 10 runs, three doubles, a home run, 14 RBI and six stolen bases...Overall, the Kansas City, Mo. native has slashed .270/.323/.360/.683 with 16 runs scored, four doubles, two home runs, 23 RBI and nine stolen bases in 27 games since his promotion to Brooklyn.
KING HENRĺ-QUEZ: INF/OF Yonatan HenrÃquez has caught fire at the plate...The switch-hitter went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and a walk on Friday at Hudson Valley, his second three-hit game of the series...HenrÃquez was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week after clobbering four home runs in last week's series in Asheville, going 9-for-25 (.360) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, 11 RBI and a stolen base...HenrÃquez's solo shot last Sunday was his ninth home run of the year, setting a new career-high...The 21-year-old has hit .306/.372/.593/.964 with 21 runs, 10 doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBI and 11 stolen bases over his last 26 games.
THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMIN': The Cyclones' offense has been nearly unstoppable over the past two weeks...The Cyclones put up 16 runs on 20 hits between Wednesday and Thursday at Hudson Valley after a huge weekend in Asheville...Last Friday, Brooklyn scored 16 runs on 20 hits, both season highs...The following night, the Cyclones scored 15 more runs on 13 hits...Brooklyn finished the series with 12 runs on 11 hits on Sunday...The 16 runs were the most Brooklyn has scored since putting up 18 runs in Jersey Shore on August 28, 2022...The Cyclones fell just two hits shy of matching the franchise's all-time high of 22, set on July 13, 2007, vs. Tri-City, the Houston Astros' former New York-Penn League affiliate...The 43 runs are the most the Cyclones have scored in a three-game span, with the previous high being 37 on July 13-15, 2007 vs. Tri-City and State College, the Pittsburgh Pirates' former NYPL affiliate...Since last Friday, Brooklyn is tied for third in Minor League Baseball in runs scored (70) and top-15 in hits (90).
FIRST AID-AN: OF Aidan Smith has made an immediate impact in his first three weeks as a Cyclone...The Tulsa, Okla., native went 3-for-4 with a home run and two walks last Friday in Asheville...Smith homered four times in a five-game span in his first series as a Cyclone in Wilmington...The 22-year-old saw his nine-game hitting streak come to an end in the series opener with Jersey Shore two weeks ago...In 18 games with Brooklyn, Smith is 22-for-69 (.319/.429/.565/.994) with 17 runs scored, two doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI, 14 walks and eight stolen bases...Smith began the year on the Injured List for Bowling Green and did not rejoin the Hot Rods until May 19...After a slow start to the season, the new Mets farmhand has found his stride over the last month...Since July 5, Smith has slashed .297/.384/.594/.978 with 31 runs scored, five doubles, 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 32 games.
WHERE BROOKLYN AT: The Mets promoted OF Heriberto Rincón to Brooklyn on Thursday after promoting SS Elian Peña, OF John Smith III and LHP Conner Ware last week...Rincón appeared in six games for the Cyclones in April, going 6-for-22 (.273) at the plate...The 20-year-old has hit .248/.282/.346/.628 in 49 games across three levels this season...Peña played in 96 games for Single-A St. Lucie this season, slashing .271/.388/.397/.785 with 18 doubles, eight home runs and 28 stolen bases...The Mets' No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline has been playing his best baseball of the year lately...Since July 25, Peña is slashing .278/.378/.435/.813 with five doubles and four home runs in 26 games...Peña became the third 18-year-old in High-A, joining Nationals' SS Eli Willits (Wilmington) and Athletics' OF Breyson Guedez (Lansing)...Smith was the Mets' 19th-round pick in the MLB draft this past July...The University of Central Florida product played in 10 games for St. Lucie, going 10-for-41 (.244) with three doubles, two home runs and three stolen bases...Ware appeared in 20 games for St. Lucie, making 10 starts...The former Louisiana State Tiger pitched to a 4.40 ERA over 71.2 innings with a 1.30 WHIP and 84 strikeouts.
COMEBACK 'CLONES: The Cyclones came back from four runs down in the 7th to defeat Hudson Valley on Wednesday, and rattled off five unanswered runs to capture Sunday's series finale...On Wednesday, Brooklyn scored two runs in both the 7th and 8th before unloading with a season-high seven-run inning in the 10th to win 11-5...The win was the third time this month the Cyclones came back from a four-run deficit...Brooklyn scored six runs in the 9th on August 5 to pull off a stunning come-from-behind 10-8 victory in Wilmington...With two outs in the inning, 2B-RF Yonatan HenrÃquez launched a go-ahead three-run home run to complete the comeback...On August 9 in Wilmington, the Cyclones trailed 5-1 in the 4th before scoring seven runs over the final six innings for an 8-6 victory...HenrÃquez tallied three hits and drove in a pair.
ARMS RACE: Brooklyn pitching has kicked into high gear as of late...The Cyclones held Hudson Valley to three runs or fewer in four of six contests last week...Two weeks ago, Brooklyn starters combined on 32.2 innings of one-run ball against the BlueClaws, good for a 0.28 ERA, while four of the six starters tossed at least 5.0 frames of scoreless ball...Despite allowing 12 earned runs on Thursday and Friday in Asheville, Cyclone arms have the seventh best ERA in all of full-season MiLB at 3.52 since the start of their series in Wilmington on August 4...Furthermore, the Brooklyn bullpen has a 10-6 record with a 3.16 ERA over the last 24 contests.
TAKING CARREÑO BUSINESS: LHP Nicolas Carreño has found his stride on the mound...Despite being saddled with the loss on Tuesday in Hudson Valley, the Venezuela native struck out seven over 5.2 innings for the second consecutive start...Carreño has been one of the best pitchers in the South Atlantic League in August, ranking near the top of the league in most stats...The 20-year-old is first in batting average against (.152), tied for first in wins (3), second in ERA (1.17) and opposing OPS (.459), tied for second in double plays (4), third in WHIP (1.00) and tied for fifth in strikeouts (27)...The Renegades' first run on Tuesday snapped Carreño's streak of not allowing an earned run at 20.2 innings.
BALL MAGNETS: The Cyclones set a franchise record on August 21...OF John Smith III was hit by a pitch, the 108th time a Brooklyn batter was drilled by a pitch this season, the most in a single season in franchise history...The Cyclones are third in Minor League Baseball and lead the South Atlantic League in hit batsmen with 114...Minnesota's High-A Cedar Rapids and San Diego's Single-A Lake Elsinore (119) lead MiLB...OF John Bay set the Cyclones' single-season record for hit-by-pitches with 19, surpassing OF Matt Rudick (2022) and C Chris Suero's (2025) previous mark of 16... The Cyclones have had four hitters plunked in a game on four separate occasions in 2026...The single-game franchise record is six, set on May 19, 2023, at Hudson Valley...The previous record was set in 2022 when the Cyclones were plunked 107 times.
PITCHING IN: Brooklyn's pitching staff has been sharp as of late...The Cyclones' staff allowed just two earned runs over 56.0 innings in their series against Jersey Shore two weeks ago...Since May 14, Brooklyn pitchers have posted a 3.75 ERA (325 ER in 781.0 IP), the third-lowest in Minor League Baseball...Only Texas' Single-A Hickory (3.54) and Chicago-AL's Single-A Kannapolis (3.61)...The Cyclones' bullpen has been a huge reason for that success...Since that date, Brooklyn's 3.58 ERA (159 ER in 400.0 IP) from relievers is fourth-best in MiLB, trailing only Kannapolis (3.08), Hickory (3.41) and Milwaukee's Triple-A Nashville (3.49)...In June, the Cyclones posted a 3.66 ERA (101 ER in 221.1 IP), the best mark in the South Atlantic League...Overall in 2026, the Cyclones' 4.04 ERA (481 ER in 1072.0 IP) is third-best in MiLB.
THIS DATE IN CYCLONES HISTORY: On September 1, 2001, the Cyclones clinched the McNamara Division thanks to a 7-6 win over the Batavia Muckdogs...Future NL MVP 1B Ryan Howard went 0-for-4 while committing three errors in the field for the Muckdogs...In 2004, OF Derran Watts had a 5-for-5 effort vs. Batavia, tying the franchise record for hits in a single game.
BROOKLYN TO THE BIGS: After 14 former Cyclones made their Major League debuts in 2025, nine alumni have accomplished the feat in 2026...LHP Nate Lavender, who pitched Brooklyn in 2022 and again on a minor league rehab assignment earlier this year, debuted for the New York Mets on Tuesday night in Cleveland...He joins RHP Kade Morris, RHP Wilkin Ramos, OF Nick Morabito, LHP Zac Thornton, OF Carson Benge, OF A.J. Ewing, RHP Cameron Foster, and RHP Anthony Nunez, who made their debuts earlier this season...Foster and Nunez each debuted with the Baltimore Orioles in April, while Ramos and Morris debuted for the San Francisco Giants and Athletics, respectively...Last year's 14 debuts set a new single-season franchise record.
AMAZIN' STARTS HERE: According to MLB Pipeline, the Cyclones hold eight of the Mets' Top 30 prospects: SS Elian Peña (3), INF Sammy Stafura (8), OF Aiden Robbins (10), INF Cole Mathis (14), OF Aidan Smith (16), 1B/OF Randy Guzmán (22), LHP Daviel Hurtado (24), and RHP José Chirinos (27)...The Cyclones also have seven of the Mets' Top 30 farmhands per Baseball America: Peña (6), Stafura (9), Robbins (11), Smith (12), Mathis (16), Guzmán (20), Carreño (27)...Joe DeMayo lists Stafura (3), Peña (6), Guzmán (16), Mathis (17), Smith (22), Hurtado (26), and LHP Nicolas Carreño (28) among his Top 30.
