Kris Gross Promoted to Assistant General Manager, Scouting
FLUSHING, NY, September 24, 2026 - The New York Mets today announced that Derek Falvey has joined the organization as Senior Advisor, Baseball Operations. In addition, Kris Gross has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, Scouting. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Derek, his wife Meghan, and their children to the Mets," said Stearns. "Throughout his career, Derek has distinguished himself as one of the most respected executives in our sport. His experience across the full scope of baseball operations functions and his familiarity with leading an organization will serve as a great addition to our front office group."
Falvey will report directly to Stearns and serve as a trusted voice across a wide range of Baseball Operations decisions. He was most recently a member of the Minnesota Twins organization, where he rose to the position of President, Baseball and Business Operations, a title he had until his departure in 2025. He previously led the Twins Baseball Operations department for nine seasons, serving as President, Baseball Operations (2019-25) and Executive Vice President, Chief Baseball Officer (2016-19).
"I am excited to join the New York Mets and become part of a franchise that means so much to so many people," said Falvey. "Throughout my conversations with the organization, what stood out were the high expectations and the commitment to winning at every level. What I've always loved most about this game is being part of a team, and I look forward to bringing my experiences and contributing to this group in any way I can. I want to thank Steve and Alex Cohen and David Stearns for this opportunity."
During Falvey's tenure leading the Twins Baseball Operations department, the team reached the Postseason four times, winning the American League Wild Card in 2017 and the American League Central Division in 2019, 2020 and 2023. Falvey's career in baseball began with Cleveland in November 2007, when he started as an intern in Baseball Operations. He rose to the roles of Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, Director of Baseball Operations, and eventually Assistant General Manager.
Gross originally joined the Mets organization in the fall of 2023, overseeing Amateur Scouting. Prior to this season, he added oversight of International Scouting, earning the title of Vice President, Amateur & International Scouting. In his role, Gross is responsible for overseeing the organization's efforts to scout and draft amateur players from across the United States and international markets.
"I am happy to recognize Kris Gross and his promotion to Assistant General Manager, Scouting," added Stearns. "Over the last three seasons, Kris has successfully led our amateur talent acquisition apparatus and will now assume additional responsibility contributing to Major League transactions. This promotion is well-earned."
"I would like to thank David and the New York Mets for the recognition," said Gross. "Scouting plays a crucial role in our ability to build a sustainable winning organization. I would like to thank the entire Amateur and International Scouting departments, whose tireless work allows me to be successful. Their dedication is the reason we are able to find exciting young Major League players as well as promising prospects. I am excited to continue the work we are doing to bring more homegrown talent to Queens."
Prior to joining the Mets, Gross spent 11 seasons with the Astros organization. He started as the team's West Coast Supervisor and was promoted to the club's Director of Amateur Scouting. During his time on the Astros scouting staff, the club produced more Major League players (65) via the Draft than any other organization.
The former pitcher played three seasons in the Cubs minor league system (2003-05), making 70 relief appearances at the Rookie and Class-A levels. Following his playing career, Gross joined the Cardinals front office in 2008 and eventually served as the club's Upper Midwest Area Supervisor for three seasons before joining the Astros organization.
