St. Lucie Mets Game Recap: Mets Win 3rd Straight with 6-5 Walk-Off vs. Jupiter

Rodriguez hits game-winning 2R 1B in 9th

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (September 2, 2026) - The St. Lucie Mets won their first game of the season when trailing after eight innings with a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Wednesday night at Clover Park.

The Mets won their third straight game while the Hammerheads lost their seventh in a row.

The Mets trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the ninth. Boston Baro, Julio Zayas and Jack Toomey all drew walks with one out to load the bases. That brought up Yovanny Rodriguez, who hit a broken bat ground ball off Jonathan Rosario that snuck past second baseman Yoffry Solano for a two-run single to win the game.

Tuesday night the Mets trailed 6-3 at the seventh inning stretch and won. Wednesday they were down 5-1 at the stretch. The comeback started when Jeremy Rodriguez scored from third base on a throwing error by pitcher Ian Medina in the seventh.

The Mets scored two runs with two outs in the eighth when Vladi Gomez hit an RBI infield single and a second run scored on the play on a throwing error by Luis Arana that cut the Mets deficit to 5-4.

The Mets relief foursome of Ernesto Mercedes, Cesar Rivera, Zach Crotchfelt and Caden Wooster combined for 4.2 innings of shutout ball. They gave up just two hits, did not walk a batter and recorded six strikeouts.

Mercedes pitched 1.2 perfect innings. Crotchfelt tossed a 1-2-3 eighth with one strikeout on just nine pitches.

Wooster got his first win of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth.

Mets starter Ethan Lanthier pitched 4.1 innings and was charged with five runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out four.

The Mets were outhit by Jupiter for the second straight night. Gomez had the only multi-hit game for the Mets by going 2 for 4.

Branny De Oleo reached base in all four trips to the plate. He hit a RBI double and drew three walks.

The Hammerheads were plagued by walks all night long. They walked 12 total batters including eight over the last three innings.

Jupiter first baseman Echedry Vargas went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI. His two-run homer against the Lanthier in the fifth inning was his FSL-leading 27th of the season.

The Mets (23-38, 56-71) and Hammerheads (24-35, 60-65) play the third game of their series at Clover Park on Thursday. First pitch is 6:10 p.m. It's the last $2 Night of the year with $2 select beer, hot dogs, fountain soda and popcorn.
