Game Recap and Highlights: Ponies Split Saturday Doubleheader in Erie

ERIE, PA – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-4) split a doubleheader against the Erie SeaWolves (4-3) on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Park.

Game One: Rumble Ponies 9, Seawolves 2

Kevin Parada's opposite-field solo homer in the top of the sixth broke a 2-2 tie. Jose Peroza began the seventh with a solo shot to right, the first of six runs in the inning. Later in the frame, Jeremiah Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk and Brandon McIlwain had a bases-clearing triple. McIlwain would also score on the play on an errant throw to third.

McIlwain finished 2-3 with three RBIs. Peroza was 2-for-4 and now has two home runs on the season. Joander Suarez allowed two runs over four and two thirds' innings in the no-decision. Nolan Clenney (1-0) picked up the win with an inning and a third of scoreless relief with no walks and three strikeouts.

Game Two: SeaWolves 7, Rumble Ponies 6 (8)

Chris Meyers scored from third on a walk-off wild pitch to give Erie the comeback victory in extra innings. With the Ponies up 6-3 with two out in the bottom of the sixth, Gage Workman hit a game-tying three-run home run to even the score.

Jeremiah Jackson lined a two-run single to left as part of a three-run third to put the Ponies up 4-3. He then belted a two-run homer to right center in the fifth that extended Binghamton's lead to 6-3. Jackson finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Troy Miller retired the last seven batters he faced. He allowed only one hit over four innings in a no-decision.

The two teams have split the first four games of the rain-shortened five-game series. The rubber game will be on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:35 p.m. and the NYCM Insurance Pregame Show at 1:20 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: McIlwain was 4-7 over the two games with a triple and a double…Parada's homer in game one and Jackson's home run in game two marked each player's first of the season…In the first game, Parada was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and reached base three times…Binghamton has not been swept in a doubleheader dating back to the beginning of the 2023 season.
