Carey hit walk-off 3R HR in bottom of 12th
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (September 6, 2026) - The last game of the 2026 season turned out to be the wildest game of the year for the St. Lucie Mets.
Mets No. 9 hitter Dylan Carey hit a walk-off three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning to propel the Mets to stunning 11-10 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Clover Park. The Mets closed out the season by winning five of their final six games to finish above Jupiter in the second half standings and above Daytona overall for third place in the FSL East.
The Mets ended the season with a 58-72 overall record and a 25-39 record in the second half.
Sunday's game, which was a continuation of Saturday's suspended contest, breezed along through eight innings with the Mets up 6-2.
Chaos ensued in the ninth.
Mets reliever Christian Rodriguez walked the first three batters of the inning. Rodriguez bounced back by getting two ground outs that produced two runs that cut the Mets lead to 6-4. PJ Morlando kept the game going with a double. That brought up Jacob Lombard, who hit a three-run homer with the Hammerheads down to their final strike to put Jupiter up 7-6.
Jupiter reliever Jonawel Valdez retired the first two Mets in the bottom of the ninth. Ryan Tayman and Yovanny Rodriguez kept the game going with back-to-back walks. Kuhio Aloy then poked a RBI single to right field with two strikes to tie the game 7-7.
Both teams scored their free runner in the 10th. Josh Hogue hit a two-out, two-strike RBI double off Miguel Mejias to make it 8-7 Hammerheads. Reed Stallman scored from third base on a one-out wild pitch by Yenfri Sosa in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-8.
Neither team scored in the 11th.
Jeremy Almonte hit a two-run homer off Brett Banks in the top of the 12th to put Jupiter up 10-8.
Sosa returned to the mound in the bottom of the 12th and got a strikeout and issued a walk to bring up Carey as the winning run. Carey clubbed a 1-0 slider 422 feet to left field to end the game and send the Mets into a frenzy. It was the second pro home run for the undrafted product out of Nebraska.
The Mets used a franchise-record 11 pitchers in the game. On Saturday Alex Petrovic (6th round - Auburn) started the game in his pro debut. On Sunday, Luke McNeillie (5th round - Florida), Landon Koenig (8th round - Ole Miss) and Gavin Guidry (16th round - LSU) each made their pro debuts and turned in a scoreless inning.
Banks pitched the final two innings and was credited with the win.
Jupiter outhit St. Lucie 11-7. The Hammerheads outhit the Mets in all five games of the series. The Mets won four of the five games.
Aloy went 2 for 5 with two singles, a walk and three runs. He was the lone Met to record a multi-hit game.
The game took 3 hours and 58 minutes which was the longest game of the season. It featured three different delays totaling 1 hour and 33 minutes: at the start of the game Saturday, after the first out of the bottom of the first inning Saturday and a third delay for an umpire change in the 11th inning on Sunday.
The Mets went 6-1 in extra innings games in 2026. Sunday was the sixth walk-off win at Clover Park.
