Brian Joura Mets360: "To paraphrase Earl Weaver, the Mets won Tuesday’s game with pitching, defense and three home runs, downing the Diamondbacks, 8-3, at Citi Field."

NY Post: Mets play like MLB’s top team as bats stay red hot in convincing win over Diamondbacks. "The Mets’ bats remained scorching and have scored 34 runs in three games. The Mets’ defenders seemed to try to outdo one another during one spectacular half-inning. And the Mets’ pitching arms quietly lowered their collective ERA to an MLB-best 2.60."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets put together highlight-reel defensive inning in win over Diamondbacks. "Mark Vientos and Francisco Lindor on the left side of the infield and Tyrone Taylor in centerfield combined for an impromptu clinic, an eight-pitch, 3-minute highlight reel in real time during the fourth inning of the Mets’ 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. In consecutive at-bats, Arizona’s Randal Grichuk, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Eugenio Suarez rocketed batted balls at 100 mph or harder. And each turned into an unlikely out."

Jason Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: "...an extraordinary catch by Tyrone Taylor, who used a perfect read and first step to close ground on a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drive into the left-field gap, diving on the warning track to snag the ball and just avoid contact with Jose Azocar. It was the kind of sequence you see in a superhero movie and mutter that the CGI looks impressive but needs a little more grounding in physics."

Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: It’s like these Mets can do no wrong as Party Citi vibes grow. "Games have transformed into parties at Citi Field, where the Mets are 13-1. It’s like they can do no wrong. And what about that rotation that was supposed to be their weakness? Well, with five one-run innings, David Peterson made it a National League record 30 straight games to begin the season where the Mets starter gave up four runs or less, according to ESPN stats guru Sarah Langs (the 2022 Yankees share the MLB mark at 41)." • Mets: Are 1-3 when tied after eight innings this season.
  • Brandon Nimmo: Slugged a lead-off homer to right, his 13th career lead-off blast, third-most in Mets history behind José Reyes and Curtis Granderson (21 each).
  • Luis Severino (8.0 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 5 K): Fired 7.0 no-hit innings before allowing a single to Dansby Swanson with no outs in the eighth...Was tied for the longest no-hit bid of his career...Threw 7.0 hitless innings on October 3, 2022 at Texas with the Yankees...Courtesy of Elias...Was his longest start since June 16, 2018 vs. Tampa Bay (Also: 8.0 IP)...Was the first Mets pitcher to throw at least 8.0 innings and allow one or zero hits since Marcus Stroman accomplished the feat on July 21, 2021 at Cincinnati.

Mark Sanchez NY Post: Luis Severino’s near no-hitter wasted as Mets collapse in crushing loss to Cubs. "The Mets lost a no-hitter, then a lead and then a game in the brutal eighth and ninth innings of a 3-1 defeat to the Cubs at Citi Field on Monday night...Eight brilliant, one-hit, one-soft-run innings from Severino was not enough. The Mets’ only run came on a Nimmo home run — off the fourth pitch from Jameson Taillon, who otherwise shut down the Mets for 7 ¹/₃ innings — and the Mets entrusted Edwin Diaz to protect a tie game."

Tim Healey Newsday Mets lose to Cubs after Luis Severino takes no-hitter into eighth inning. "They lost to the Cubs, 3-1, after Edwin Diaz gave up a two-out, two-run, tiebreaking home run to Christopher Morel in the top of the ninth inning. Then they brought the would-be winning run to the plate in the bottom of the final frame, but DJ Stewart and Brett Baty both struck out against Hector Neris."

NY Post: Edwin Diaz’s rare botch dooms Mets in loss to lowly Reds.  "Diaz (L,0-1), who had been unscored upon in 10 of his 12 appearances this season, got two quick outs in the ninth before Winker turned around a 96-mph fastball and cleared the right-field fence."

Mets360: "Jesse Winker jumped on a first pitch fastball from Edwin Diaz for a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the 9th, and the Reds’ bullpen was able to close the game out providing 5.1 scoreless innings...The Reds got off to an early start in this series opener with four runs in the second inning off Mets’ starter Zack Wheeler."

NY Post: "Tanner Roark and his replacement, Wandy Peralta, struggled to throw strikes in the fourth, allowing the Mets to tie it 4-4. After Roark walked Pete Alonso on four pitches with the bases loaded for the inning’s first run, Peralta issued a four-pitch walk to Brandon Nimmo."

NY Post: Mets mauled by Marlins, drop second straight series. "The Mets (15-7) are still tied for the most victories in the major leagues, but suddenly have lost four of six games, as some of their early offensive magic has dissipated...Ichiro Suzuki’s three-run homer in the eighth off Alex Torres gave the Marlins a cushion. Colon (L,4-1) lasted 6 ²/₃ innings and allowed four earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. It marked the first start this season in which Colon surrendered more than three earned runs."

Baseball Reference2013: The Marlins earn a rare victory, 4 - 3, over the Mets with a two-run rally in the bottom of the 15th inning. Ruben Tejada gives the Mets a 3 - 2 lead with an infield single off Jon Rauch in the top of the 15th, but the Fish come back on Rob Brantly's single and Nick Green's sacrifice fly against Shaun Marcum, the Mets' ninth pitcher of the night. After Scott Hairston hit into a fielder’s choice, [Ike] Davis lined a single to left to score Wright and rescue the Mets...Santana, who missed all of last season [2011] after undergoing shoulder surgery, gave up two hits, walked three and struck out five in six scoreless innings."

NY Post: Livan 'Em On - Mets Fail in Clutch Vs Nationals. "The problem last night for the Mets wasn’t getting hits. It was getting hits when it mattered. Last night’s 5-1 loss to the Nationals was a study in how not to maximize your offensive chances. The Mets went 3-for-19 with men on base and an atrocious 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position, failing in the clutch nearly every inning...For the first 3 2/3 innings, Jae Seo (L,1-1) very easily retired the Nationals batters, working on an impressive no-hitter.
