Brooklyn Cyclones Press Release (reprinted from milb.com/brooklyn by permission)
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Brooklyn Cyclones picked up a pair of South Atlantic League monthly awards on Monday, as 3B Jacob Reimer was named the SAL Player of the Month, and the recently promoted LHP Zach Thornton took home SAL Pitcher of the Month.
Reimer enjoyed an outstanding start to his 2025 campaign. As
of Monday, the Yucaipa, CA native is slashing .327/.393/.634. Reimer finds
himself atop the SAL in doubles (10), is tied for the league lead in triples
(3) and tied for 4th in home runs (5). Reimer became the first Cyclone in
nearly 20 years to log a three home run game, when he did so against Wilmington
on April 30. The 21 year old also leads the SAL hits (33), total bases (64) and
is 2nd in OPS (1.027). He’ll enter Tuesday’s contest in Asheville riding a nine
game hitting streak, during which, he is 13-for-38 at the plate with seven
extra-base hits and 10 RBI. Reimer was also named to MiLB’s "Prospect Team
of the Week" in mid-April, after hitting .421 (8-19) with 5 runs scored, 2
doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, and 4 RBI during a five game stretch.
Additionally, Thornton was equally dominant. During his time
with the Cyclones prior to his April 28 promotion to Double-A Binghamton, the
southpaw mowed down opposing hitters. His 0.44 ERA across four starts is tied
for the league lead (with Brooklyn teammate RHP Joel Diaz). Thornton sported a
3-0 record during his time in Brooklyn, and boasted an impressive 25-to-2
strikeout to walk ratio. The Grand Canyon University product did not give up
more than 1 ER in any of his four starts, and did not give up a run at all
until his final appearance with the Cyclones on April 24. Thornton departed the
SAL tied for the league lead in wins (3), 2nd in WHIP (0.68) and 6th in batting
average against (.162).
AJ. Ewing - who joined the Cyclones last week - was named
the Florida State League Player of the week. The 20-year-old tore up the
Florida State League through his first 18 games of the season. The outfielder
was batting .400, tops in the Florida State League, with 20 RBI (2nd), .506 OBP
(1st), .615 slugging (4th), 1.121 OPS (1st), 26 hits (1st), four triples
(t-1st), 40 total bases (t-3rd), 15 runs scored (t-6th) and 14 stolen bases
(1st).
