NY Post: Francisco Lindor, Mets extend struggles in loss to Guardians. "The Mets shortstop wasn’t alone in futility, but as somebody batting only .193 after his 0-for-4 performance, his troubles certainly are pronounced...Tylor Megill, in his return from the injured list, allowed three runs, one unearned, on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts...The Guardians jumped on Megill in the first for two runs, one of which was unearned following Brandon Nimmo’s error in left field."

Brian Joura Mets360: "But even though it was a road game, the Mets’ bats were mostly silent. The only run came on a homer by Tomas Nido, a ball he absolutely crushed. And his reward was getting pinch-hit for in the top of the seventh inning."

Tim Healey Newsday: Brett Baty fails in big spot as Mets fall to Guardians. "In the Mets’ last best chance to save themselves Monday night, Brett Baty was the man of the moment, batting with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the sixth, the score tight. He struck out on three pitches against reliever Nick Sandlin. The would-be rally was over. The game soon followed. The Mets dropped the series opener to the Guardians, 3-1, for an 11th loss in their past 16 tries."

NY Post: Mets’ inexplicable base running blunder leads to embarrassing double play: ‘Oh goodness’.  "Starling Marte hit into a 1-6-5-3 double play...J.D. Martinez, who was caught between second and third base and was eventually tagged out by third baseman José Ramírez...as Marte was going to attempt to get to second, he turned back to go to first. Ramírez noticed what was going on and made a quick throw to first base and Josh Naylor was able to apply the tag in time to complete the double play."

National Pastime.com: Terry Collins, a 67 year-old baseball lifer, passes Davey Johnson (1984-1990) to become the longest-tenured manager in Mets history, reaching 1,013 games with the team. The oldest skipper in the majors, sees his charges hang on to a 7-5 victory when Addison Reed strikes out Angel pinch-hitter Danny Espinosa on a 3-2 count with the bases loaded after three runs have scored in the top of the ninth inning at Citi Field.

NY Post: "Table setters Michael Conforto and Jose Reyes carried the lineup, reaching base a combined eight times in 10 trips to the plate, and scored the first four Mets (18-23) runs. Conforto, who drew three walks and doubled, scored three times and Reyes notched his 2,000th career hit with a first-inning single. He also ended up driving in the game-winning runs with a two-run single in the eighth that appeared to be meaningless at the time but wound up being the difference."
