Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets pitched well enough to win but their bats were late in arriving from the East Coast, as they fell to the Dodgers, 2-0, in the opening of the four-game series against the first-place Dodgers. It was the first time this season that the Mets were shut out. The Mets managed just three hits and a walk – a far cry from what they had been doing this past week against second-division clubs in Philadelphia and Washington."

Mets.com: Stat of the Day: 6 straight hits to open game. “The Mets opened the game with six consecutive hits, marking the second time in franchise history that they had done so, per the Elias Sports Bureau. The first time occurred on June 25, 1979, against the Pirates. This time, the six hits came from Jonathan Villar, Francisco Lindor, James McCann, Pete Alonso, Kevin Pillar and Dominic Smith. Five of the six were singles, while McCann's was a three-run homer.”

"Ian Kennedy threw six strong innings and outpitched the rookie sensation, leading the Padres to a 7-2 victory Tuesday night...Syndergaard (2-3) flashed the talent that has the Mets excited as the right-hander struck out 10. But San Diego touched him for seven runs and 10 hits in four innings."

NY PostSyndergaard’s final line included seven earned runs allowed on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks over four innings. Baseball ReferenceThe Pirates take an early 7 - 0 lead against Mike Pelfrey and the Mets, but New York rallies for 9 straight runs. The Mets score 3 on Carlos Beltran's three-run blast in the 3rd, add a four-run inning in the 6th to even the score against Paul Maholm, then win it in the 8th with 2 more runs. Mets manager Terry Collins does some fancy maneuverings in the 8th, sending pitcher Chris Capuano to pinch-hit with pinch-runner Willie Harris on first, hoping for a sacrifice bunt; when losing P Jose Veras balks the runner over, Collins calls Capuano back, and sends in Josh Thole to finish the at-bat. In the end, four walks and a wild pitch in the inning sink the Bucs, who lose, 9 - 8, in what is the Mets' biggest comeback in 11 years.

NY Post: Martinez Again Sen-Shea-Tional - Pedro Pitches Mets to win over D'Backs. "Martinez (W,6-1) made his 11th start of the year for the Mets last night, and it was just as superb as his first 10. The scintillating ace was brilliant in the Mets’ 6-1 win over Arizona, permitting a run in eight innings. He gave up five hits, struck out nine and walked no one...Trailing 1-0 with one out in the fourth, Beltran tied things up. Batting righty against lefty Shawn Estes, Beltran crushed a 1-0 fastball over the right-center field wall...Mike Piazza followed Beltran’s blast with a walk, and Cliff Floyd scorched a double down the right-field line. Piazza scored from first, sliding in awkwardly at home in a headfirst stumble. Floyd took third on the play, then scored on a passed ball to make it 3-1.
