Mets get only 2 hits over 10 innings, Sean Manaea throws his longest outing of the year (1 Hit - a solo HR over 5 innings) but it was not enough as the Mets "run-prevention" offense can't even score the free runner from 2nd in the 10th.
Brian Joura Mets360: "The visitors managed only two hits all night, both homers. Jared Young homered in the fifth, while Marcus Semien went deep in the sixth."
NY Post: "Brooks Raley surrendered the game-tying homer an inning after Manaea’s removal. Mendoza said he didn’t consider allowing Manaea to pitch that seventh inning because his velocity began to drop in the sixth and he was already at his season’s longest outing."
Jason Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: "I was watching blearily as Juan Soto failed to advance the Manfred Man, AKA Bo Bichette, and (Mariners Reliever) Gabe Speier ate Mark Vientos and Ewing alive."
Laura Albanese Newsday: "Cole Young’s 10th-inning, one-out RBI single off A.J. Minter keyed the Mariners to a 3-2 win at T-Mobile Park on Monday, snapping the Mets’ win streak at four — something they’ve accomplished twice this season but failed to build on. They’re now 7-5 in extra innings."
AP Sports: "With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Young flared a single to left field off reliever A.J. Minter (0-1). That scored Randy Arozarena, who started the inning as the automatic runner at second base and stole third as Patrick Wisdom struck out."
Anthony DiComo Mets.com: "Because the Mets have played so many extended games, in fact, and because their starting pitchers have tended not to last deep into them, Mets relievers have already thrown 258 innings. That ranks fourth in the Majors and equates to an average of 13 outs from the bullpen each night."

1995 | Hideo Nomo, limiting the Mets to one run on two hits in 8+ innings of work, picks up his first major league win, a 2-1 decision at Dodger Stadium. L.A. signed the 26 year-old former Japanese All-Star in the off-season. |
2000 | Fred McGriff becomes the thirty-first player to hit 400 career homers. The Devil Rays first baseman's milestone round-tripper comes off Glendon Rusch, a two-run drive in a 5-3 loss to the Mets at Shea Stadium. |
2010: In San Diego, Adrian Gonzalez hits a walk-off grand slam in the 11th inning to lead the Padres to a 5 - 1 win over the Mets. San Diego's David Eckstein had tied the game at 1 with a single with two outs in the bottom of the 9th against Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez, after 8 scoreless innings by Johan Santana. It's not the only late-game grand slam hit today: in Toronto, Carl Crawford of the Rays also hits one, capping a six-run 9th inning, to beat the Blue Jays, 7 - 3, and give David Price his American League-leading 8th win of the year.
2011: The Pirates take an early 7 - 0 lead against Mike Pelfrey and the Mets, but New York rallies for 9 straight runs. The Mets score 3 on Carlos Beltran's three-run blast in the 3rd, add a four-run inning in the 6th to even the score against Paul Maholm, then win it in the 8th with 2 more runs. Mets manager Terry Collins does some fancy maneuverings in the 8th, sending pitcher Chris Capuano to pinch-hit with pinch-runner Willie Harris on first, hoping for a sacrifice bunt; when losing P Jose Veras balks the runner over, Collins calls Capuano back, and sends in Josh Thole to finish the at-bat. In the end, four walks and a wild pitch in the inning sink the Bucs, who lose, 9 - 8, in what is the Mets' biggest comeback in 11 years.
2018 - Jacob deGrom matches a career high set just two weeks earlier by racking up 13 strikeouts in 7 innings in a start against the Cubs, but the NL ERA leader has to settle for another no-decision as the game is decided in 14 innings. Seven relievers add another 11 strikeouts to give the Mets 24, 2 shy of the all-time mark for an extra-inning game, but it's the Cubs who break through with 6 runs in the top of the 14th, highlighted by Albert Almora's two-run double off Buddy Baumann, to win, 7 - 1. Luke Farrell pitches 5 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.
