Mets 2025 Round 5 Draft Pick - 163 Overall - Peyton Prescott

With their 5th Round selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Mets have taken RHP Peyton Prescott, 21 years old, DOB: May 14, 2004; Throws: Right, Bats: Right, 6'0", 200lb.  

From Baseball America: "He left with an injury in a super regional matchup with Oregon State in June and had Tommy John surgery after the season. When healthy, Prescott showed a big fastball that averaged around 96 mph and touched 100. He also has a solid blend of secondaries including an average mid-80s splitter, an average mid-80s slider and a low-80s downer curveball."

He was up to 98 mph with an above-to-plus slider and splitter, but his numbers didn't match the huge raw stuff. Maybe the Mets try to stretch him out as a starter, but there's a shorter path to success in relief."

Keith Law The Athletic: "Florida State right-hander Peyton Prescott (5) is up to 100 with a 55 changeup but gets crushed by right-handed batters, as his slider is fringy and he leaves it up too often. He has an incredibly short arm action with a ton of effort, so he’ll stay in relief, where he pitched for the Seminoles this spring and posted a 5.15 ERA with a 27 percent strikeout rate."

For the Mets it's "Peyton Prescott, RHP (fifth round)  A Draft-eligible sophomore, Prescott moved from Jacksonville to Florida State and struck out 46 in 36 2/3 innings out of the Seminoles' bullpen. He showed a triple-digit heater and got whiffs on a mid-80s slider, but he needed Tommy John surgery after injuring his elbow in Super Regional play. The stuff is good though, and if he can get back to showing it after rehabbing with the Mets, he has upside as a high-leverage relief arm."
