Good Morning.  Happy Birthday Ex-Syracuse Met David Griffin. NL beats AL in Derby-Like Swing-Off, Jose Butto throws a rehab game in the FCL though the FCL Mets are eliminated from Playoff contention.

NL All-Stars 6 AL All-Stars 6 - NY wins in Tie Breaker (Box

Francisco Lindor, starting shortstop, 0 for 2, 1 K; 

Pete Alonso, came into play 1B in the 4th, 1 for 2, 3- run HR, 3 RBIs;

David Peterson pitched the 4th inning, no runs, 2 hits, 1 K;  

Edwin Diaz (BS,1) came into the 9th inning with the tying run on 2nd and 1 out, run scored on a infield single, 2/3rd inning, 1 K.  

After ending game with a tie after 9 innings the NL beat the AL in a "Swing-Off".  Each team could send three batters to hit each having three swings to hit home runs.  Pete Alonso was scheduled to be the last batter but it wasn't necessary as the NL led 4 HRs to 3 after the last AL batter.

New York Mets traded Jack Lamabe to the St. Louis Cardinals for Al Jackson on July 16, 1967.

New York Mets purchased John Strohmayer from the Montreal Expos on July 16, 1973.

New York Mets traded Dave Cochrane to the Chicago White Sox for Tom Paciorek on July 16, 1985.

New York Mets traded Armando Benitez to the New York Yankees for Jason AndersonAnderson Garcia and Ryan Bicondoa on July 16, 2003.

1988
In the longest game ever played in Texas League history, the San Antonio Missions beat the visiting Jackson Mets in 26 innings, 1-0. The Keefe Stadium contest, which started on July 14, was suspended at 2:25 a.m. the following day and continued on July 16, taking a total of 7 hours and 23 minutes to complete.
2003
The Yankees send pitching prospects Jason Anderson, Anderson Garcia, and Ryan Bicondoa to the Mets for hard-throwing embattled closer Armando Benitez. The 30 year-old All-Star reliever, slated to be the setup man for closer Mariano Rivera, blew seven of 28 save opportunities and became the object of much booing at Shea Stadium.

2006
At Wrigley Field, Mets outfielders Cliff Floyd and Carlos Beltran both hit grand slams during a franchise-record 11-run inning in the sixth of the 13-7 defeat of the Cubs. The pair of four-run homers marks only the seventh time in baseball history a team has accomplished the feat in one inning.



2006
The Reds honor perfect game hurler Tom Browning and slugging first baseman Lee May with induction into the team's Hall of Fame. Tom Seaver, who spent five-plus seasons and hurled a no-hitter with Cincinnati and who is presently enshrined in Cooperstown as well as a member of the Mets Hall of Fame, is also included as an inductee.



1993 - Giants OF Darren Lewis sets a major league record by playing his 267th consecutive game without an error. He snaps Don Demeter's record. The Giants defeat the Mets, 4 - 2.

1997: At Shea Stadium, RF Sammy Sosa's running catch with the bases loaded in the 7th, and catcher Scott Servais's pickoff in the 8th, key Chicago to a 6 - 5 win over the Mets. Before the game, New York reassigns general manager Joe McIlvaine and replaces him with his assistant, Steve Phillips.
