Brian Joura Mets360: "One night after putting up eight runs, the Mets were held to just two. But thanks to a strong outing from David Peterson and three relievers, it was enough, as the Mets emerged with a 2-1 victory Saturday night in San Francisco. The club has a six-game winning streak and is now 21-13 in one-run games."
AP Sports: Mets hold off Giants 2-1 for 6th consecutive win. "Mark Vientos laced a two-run double, All-Star lefty David Peterson pitched out of trouble for six effective innings and the New York Mets held off the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Saturday night for their sixth consecutive victory."
Mike Puma NY Post: David Peterson’s escape act edges Mets over Giants in sixth straight win. "David Peterson encountered more traffic than the Bay Bridge at rush hour, but was resourceful enough Saturday night to record outs when the Mets needed them...Peterson allowed 11 base runners over his six innings, but surrendered only one run. It was the 13th time this season Peterson lasted at least six innings. Mets starters overall have pitched at least six innings only 31 times in 105 games."
Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets beat Giants as Pete Alonso's leaping catch preserves victory for David Peterson. "Called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth, Edwin Diaz allowed a one-out double off the rightfield wall by Jung-Hoo Lee. After pinch hitter Mike Yastrzemski struck out swinging, Patrick Bailey hit a bullet to first base that was snagged by a leaping Alonso on the backhand to end the game."

1963 | John Bateman's eighth-inning homer at Colt Stadium will be the only run scored in the Mets' 21st consecutive defeat on the road. The 1-0 complete-game decision to Houston is Roger Craig's 16th straight loss, tying Craig Anderson's dubious club record established in the franchise's inaugural season last year. |
1964 | In the first clash of tenth-place teams in major league history, the Senators prevail, beating the Mets in the Hall of Fame exhibition game, 6-4. The Cooperstown combatants will collectively lose 209 games this season, but Washington will climb out of the cellar to finish ahead of Kansas City. |
1975 | The Mets release Cleon Jones after suspending him nine days ago for insubordination following an altercation with manager Yogi Berra. The outfielder from Alabama will not play again this year but will briefly join the White Sox next season, playing thirteen games with the club before ending his 13-year career with .281 batting average. |
1963 - The Mets hand Jim Piersall his release and the veteran outfielder will sign with the Angels. New York then loses to Houston, 1 - 0, as Bob Bruce shuts them out. Mets 1B Frank Thomas pulls the hidden ball trick on Jimmy Wynn.
1979: The Cubs top the Mets at Shea Stadium, 4 - 2, behind Dave Kingman's two home runs.
1985 - For the second time in a week, the Mets win, 16 - 4, this time pounding the Astros in the opener of a doubleheader sweep. They break a 4 - 4 tie in the 7th with a fielder's choice by Keith Hernandez, a two-run double by Gary Carter and a three-run home run by Ray Knight. All 16 runs are unearned as relievers Frank DiPino and Mike Madden each give up 6, and starter Bob Knepper allows four runs. Jesse Orosco is the winner in the first game and earns a save for Bill Latham's first major league win in the second, a 7 - 3 victory.
1999: The Pirates defeat the Mets, 5 - 1, in one of Major League Baseball's "Turn Ahead the Clock Nights." Each team wears futuristic uniforms, with the home town squad becoming the "Mercury" Mets for the night. The futuristic theme is carried out throughout the evening, with the scoreboard flashing computerized photos of the players as each comes to the plate. Rickey Henderson, for example, is given three eyes and pointy ears, and plays "left quadrant." Al Martin hits the first of his two home runs in the 1st "sector," and rookie Kris Benson goes the distance for the win.
2003 - Catcher Gary Carter is inducted in the Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Cooperstown, NY, wearing a Montreal Expos cap on his plaque. There was some controversy over whether he would go in as an Expo or as a member of the New York Mets, but the Hall of Fame made the final decision shortly after his election was announced in January.
