NY Post: Mets lose to Royals on brutal walk-off balk inextras after trade deadline sell-off. “The Mets took a lead into the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday night after Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run homer — but they lost on a balk-off: Josh Walker entered the game in relief and balked before even throwing a pitch in a 7-6 loss to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. The lefty Walker, who came in with the bases loaded and two out, said he was trying to alert his catcher, Alvarez that he didn’t have a PitchCom device in his ear. As Walker attempted to step off the mound, he placed his foot in a footprint and his knee buckled while his foot was still on the rubber.”
North Carolina Daily: “Bobby Witt Jr.'s leadoff double off Brooks Raley (L,0-2) scored automatic runner Maikel Garcia before Witt scored on Melendez's single. Dairon Blanco reached on a two-out throwing error by third baseman Brett Baty and Grant Hartwig walked Drew Waters -- pinch-hitting for Hernandez -- to load the bases. Josh Walker entered, but he flinched while preparing to throw his first pitch, allowing Melendez to score.”

The Mets averaged just 2.73 runs during the 11-game stretch in Flushing, going 5-6. Jeff McNeil’s sixth-inning homer accounted for the Mets’ only run on a day when they were dominated by right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez and the Cincinnati bullpen. A night after blasting a two-run homer in his Mets debut, Baez finished 0-for-4. Conforto continued to hear boos during an 0-for-2 performance that dropped his batting average to .196.”

NY Post: Mets pounded by Braves in lackluster, sloppy performance. “The Mets sure resembled a team Saturday that had their hearts ripped out and shown to them the previous night. Zombies was more like it, as manager Luis Rojas’ crew fell into an early hole and never bothered to muster much of a fight…”
Metstradamus: “The Mets’ 7-1 loss on Saturday is the second time this season where the Mets followed up with a gut punch loss with a performance that’s completely flat. But to be fair, momentum is that night’s starting pitcher. The last time the Mets were flat, Rick Porcello was a disaster. Tonight it was Michael Wacha”
Newsday: “Wacha was ineffective. He needed 97 pitches to grind through four innings in which he allowed five runs, seven hits and two walks (to five strikeouts). All of those runs scored with two outs.”
Brian Joura Mets360: “Franklyn Kilome made his MLB debut in relief of Wacha. He also threw four innings, keeping the rest of the beleaguered pen from having to trudge out there again and get beat around. Kilome was consistently in the mid 90s and fanned five without giving up a walk. But he allowed two runs, including a solo homer.”
SNY.TV: Mets Takeaways from Saturday's 7-1 loss to Braves, including a down start from Michael Wacha. “The Mets had a chance to get back in the game in the fourth inning, as they loaded the bases with one out off Braves starter Touki Toussaint. But Wilson Ramos went down on strikes and Amed Rosario grounded out to third to kill the threat and leave the bases loaded. Toussaint went just four innings, but he held the Mets scoreless and struck out five hitters.”

And with the arrival of Cespedes, coupled with additions of Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson, Duda believes the Mets are ready to make a run at a division crown.”
ESPN.com: “When the Washington Nationals took the bat out of Yoenis Cespedes' hands in the eighth inning, Lucas Duda let the rest of the National League know how tough it's going to be now to get through the middle of the new Mets' lineup. Duda hit a tiebreaking double after Cespedes was walked intentionally, leading New York to a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory over the Nationals on Saturday night in front of the second largest crowd ever for a Mets game at Citi Field.”
