Brian Joura Mets360: "Sean Manaea turned in his second straight dominating performance and Carlos Mendoza’s shuffled lineup came thru, leading the Mets to a 6-0 win over the Cardinals Monday afternoon in St. Louis, in the makeup of an earlier rained out game. With the win, the Mets take the season series from the Cardinals, 4-2."
NY Post: Manaea was not perfect on a day he allowed six hits, but he was perfect when the Cardinals (57-56) threatened...St. Louis batters went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position against Manaea, who typically saved his 10 strikeouts for when they would come in handy.
Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets cruise past Cardinals with Sean Manaea's terrific start, new-look lineup. "After seeing his lineup continue to sputter with runners in scoring position, Mendoza majorly revamped his batting order Monday...The result? Taylor hit a bases-clearing double in a four-run fifth. Harrison Bader also went 2-for-4 with two doubles, Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 with a homer, and Sean Manaea weaved his second gem in a row, throwing seven scoreless innings."

NY Post: Tylor Megill pounded in return to majors as Metsfall 10 games below .500. “Tylor Megill was throwing harder than the Mets had seen from him, but that only meant louder contact Saturday night…Megill, who is back in the rotation following trades that sent Max Scherzer to the Rangers and Justin Verlander to the Astros, lasted 4 ²/₃ innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits.”
Mets.com: “…[Jeff] McNeil enjoy his biggest night at the plate in some time Saturday night, when he provided a bright spot in their 7-3 loss to the Orioles at Oriole Park. McNeil socked a two-run homer in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the sixth to account for all of New York’s runs off Kyle Gibson and first-place Baltimore’s bullpen, as Tylor Megill’s uneven return to the Majors resulted in the team’s fifth straight defeat.”

From the Braves 9 Mets 6 - Post Game Notes:
Mets: Ended a streak of 27 games allowing five or fewer runs...Was the longest such streak by a team this season and was the longest such streak in franchise history.
Taijuan Walker (L,9-3) (1.0 IP, 7 H, 8 ER): Was the second time in his career allowing eight or more runs in a start...Allowed nine runs on 4/10/15 with Seattle.
Trevor Williams (4.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 2 K): Has a 1.29 ERA (4 ER/28.0 IP) in 12 relief appearances this season...Has not allowed a run in his last 17.0 innings.

NY Post: Mets in danger of losing NL East lead after loss toMarlins. “The dreary offensive output that has plagued them for most of the season continued in a 4-2 loss to the Marlins at loanDepot park, the Mets’ third defeat in four games against the NL East’s cellar dweller. The Mets left 15 runners on base in wasting a solid pitching performance from Rich Hill. The Marlins seized the game in the eighth, scoring three runs against Jeurys Familia. The dagger was Lewis Brinson’s two-run double that buried the Mets in a 4-1 hole. The Mets rallied in the ninth, adding a run on Brandon Drury’s RBI single, but left the bases loaded for the third time in the game.”
Year: 2020; Game #13; Wednesday; Aug 5, NYM 3 @ WSN; 1; boxscore; WP: Porcello; LP: Fedde; Save: Lugo; Time: 2:46; NIGHT; Record: 5-8; Standings: 5; Games up/behind: 3.5; W;
Mets 3 Nationals 1. Rick Porcello (W, 1-1) 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 runs, 1 ER, 0 walks, 4K, 81 pitches – 56 strikes; Seth Lugo (S,2) 2 innings, 0 Hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 Ks; Dominic Smith 1 for 3, 2 RBIs; Brandon Nimmo 0 for 2 with 3 walks, 2 runs scored; J.D. Brian Joura Mets360: With three starters still out for the Mets, Rojas opted to put out his best defensive lineup, which included a double play combo of Andres Gimenez and Luis Guillorme and newly-acquired Billy Hamilton in center field. And the Mets responded with a strong defensive night. In perhaps a bit of a surprise, the best defensive play was turned in by 3B J.D. Davis, who made a nice stop and threw out a runner from his knees.
Metstradamus: Andres Gimenez at short, Luis Guillorme at second, and Billy Hamilton making his Mets debut in center (wearing number 21 which looks weird on anybody that isn’t nearly as big as Lucas Duda, so … anybody.) I noted that it had to be the best up the middle trio on defense that the Mets have had in a long time, perhaps since the days of Rey Ordonez, Edgardo Alfonzo, and Jay Payton in center. (But as I was reminded, they put out a pretty good trio in 2005 when they had Carlos Beltran in center, Jose Reyes at short, and the immortal Anderson Hernandez at second.)
SNY.TV: Mets Takeaways from Wednesday's 3-1 win over Nationals, including J.D. Davis' hitting streak. Porcello reaches seventh inning for first time in 20 starts.
