Mike Puma NY Post: Mets offense busts out in key win over wild-card rival Diamondbacks. "Pete Alonso homered, but the beauty of this Mets performance was the manner in which the team strung together hits in a fifth inning that didn’t end until 12 batters had come to the plate and six runs had scored."

Tim Healey Newsday: Pete Alonso ties Mike Piazza on Mets' home run list in victory over Arizona. "Lefthander Sean Manaea (10-5) continued his strong run with 6 2/3 innings (three runs). He struck out 11, walked none and carried a shutout into the seventh. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Corbin Carroll homered against Manaea before Mendoza pulled him. Over the past month, Manaea owns a 2.87 ERA in six starts."

Mets 3 Angels 2 Post Game Notes:

  • David Peterson: Threw a season-high 7.0 innings.
  • Rafael Ortega: Drove in the winning run with a walk-off single.
  • Francisco Alvarez: Put the Mets on the board with an RBI single in the fourth, snapping an 0-11 drought.
  • Pete Alonso: Tied the game with an RBI double to left center in the eighth.
  • Francisco Lindor: Extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single to center in the eighth, tied for the second-longest in his career and tied for his longest hitting streak as a Met (Also: 9/14 - 9/28/2022)

Newsday: David Peterson spins best start of year in Mets' walk-off win over Angels. "On the way to his best start of the year and one of the best of his career on Sunday, Peterson held Shohei Ohtani to 0-for-3: lineout (scorched), strikeout (swinging), groundout (routine)."

Newsday: "In the Mets’ walk-off 3-2 win over the Angels, Alonso went 2-for-4 with their hardest hit of the day (a 102-mph single off Griffin Canning) and their second-hardest hit of the day (a 100-mph hustle double to left-centerfield in the eighth inning that tied the score)."

NY Post: Rafael Ortega’s walk-off single lifts Mets over Angels to end four-game skid. "...Rafael Ortega’s bases-loaded single in the ninth sent the Mets to a 3-2 walk-off win Sunday at Citi Field to halt their four-game losing skid."

From the Mets 3 Rockies 0 - Post Game Notes 8/27/2022:

  • Mets: Recorded their league-leading 17th shutout of the
  • Brandon Nimmo (2-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB): Launched his sixth career lead-off home run (tied with Mookie Wilson for sixth all-time in Mets history).
  • David Peterson (6.0 IP, 4 H, 7 K): Was his second career start of 6.0 innings and no runs allowed (Also: 6/14/21 vs. CHC).

NY Post: Mets blank Rockies to cap off special Old Timers’ Day. "Nimmo accounted for the first two runs for the Mets, beginning with a leadoff blast to right against Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland in the first...He drove in another run one inning later with a two-out double to right and also walked and scored from first in the seventh on Starling Marte’s double to right-center for a 3-0 lead."

ESPN.com: Nimmo, Peterson lead Mets past Rockies 3-0 for 17th shutout. "The two-run lead was more than enough for Peterson (W,7-3), who was making his second career start against his hometown Rockies. Peterson, recalled from Triple-A Syracuse before the game, scattered four singles and struck out seven in his best start of the season...The 26-year-old lefty set a career high for wins and has fanned seven or more batters in seven of his 16 starts this season."

Year: 2021; Game#129; Friday  Aug 27 NYM 1 Vs. ;WSN; 2; boxscore;  WP: Espino; LP: Hill;  Save: Finnegan; Time: 3:03; NIGHT; Attendance: 20,274;  Record: 62-67; Standings: 3; Games up/behind: 7.5; L;

Davis 3B 0 for 3, 3 Ks; Dominic Smith LF 0 for 3, 2 Ks; Tomás Nido C 1 for 2, 1 K; Rich Hill LHP (L, 6-6) 5 innings, 2 runs – both earned, 5 hits, 8Ks;

NY Post: Mets lose to lowly Nationals as quiet bats keep team free falling. "With their bats dead, the Mets lost 2-1 at Citi Field for a fourth straight defeat and 19th in 25 games. The Mets (61-67) managed four hits and only one after Javier Baez’s homer in the fourth inning."

NY Post: "Rich Hill had the reputation for essentially being a five-inning pitcher at this stage of his career...The 41-year-old lefty has recorded exactly 15 outs in five of his six starts since the trade...The 17-year veteran made it through one lineup turn unscathed before loading the bases without recording an out in the third. He allowed two runs in the inning, on an infield out by Soto and a run-scoring single by Josh Bell for a 2-0 Nationals lead."

Year: 2019; Game #131; Tuesday;  Aug 27, NYM 2  Vs. CHC; 5; boxscore;  WP: Darvish; LP: Stroman; Time: 02:54; NIGHT; Attendance: 34,158; Record: 67-64; Standings: 4; Games up/behind: 11.5; L;

NY Post: Pete Alonso breaks Mets single-season home run record. "Alonso set a new Mets’ franchise record with his 42nd home run, breaking the mark shared by Carlos Beltran and Todd Hundley. It came in a 5-2 loss to the Cubs at Citi Field, but the 407-foot opposite field blast off Yu Darvish’s first pitch of the bottom of the fourth gave the Mets a 1-0 lead."

NY Post: Marcus Stroman hasn’t been what Mets hoped. "Marcus Stroman’s first month with the Mets was to mediocrity what Pete Alonso’s rookie season has been to sensational. On a night Alonso stood alone as the Mets’ single-season home run king, the team’s celebrated trade-deadline pickup from Toronto sputtered in his biggest spot yet since arriving. With Stroman surrendering two home runs, the Mets lost their fourth straight, 5-2 to the Cubs at Citi Field to open an important three-game series. The loss dropped the Mets three games behind the Cubs in the race for the NL’s second wild card."

NY Post: "Daniel Murphy enforced his law Thursday night, both offensively and defensively, helping the Mets complete a four-game Philly sweep and extend their winning streak to seven. His biggest contribution was a two-run double in the 13th inning that scored the go-ahead runs in the Mets’ 9-5 victory at Citizens Bank Park, but there was also the matter of a highlight-reel play at first base. Jeff Francoeur hit a grounder through the middle with two outs in the 10th inning that Carlos Torres inadvertently kicked. The ball caromed to a diving Murphy at first base, who backhanded the ball to Torres covering the base, just beating Francoeur."

ESPN.com: "Yoenis Cespedes, Kelly Johnson and Travis d'Arnaud homered for the Mets, who thrilled the large contingent of New York fans by sweeping the four-game series to give them nine straight wins over Philadelphia. New York remained 6 1-2 games ahead of Washington, a 4-2 winner over San Diego, in the NL East."
