Mariners 11 Mets 9 Post Game Notes - 8/15/2025
- Mets: The Mets fell to the Mariners, 11-9, in the first game of their three-game series...They have lost four straight vs. Seattle since the beginning of the 2024 season...Are 2-14 in their last 16 games dating back to July 28...They have blown a lead in seven straight games and in nine of those 14 losses...Is their worst record in any 16-game span since July 8-28, 2012 (also: 2-14)...Are six games over .500, their lowest watermark since April 18 (13-7)...The Mets are 2-8 over their last 10 home games after going 37-16 in their first 53 home games of the season...They are also 1-5 over their last six series openers after going 22-12 in the opening game of their first 34 series...Marked their first loss when scoring at least nine runs this season (9-1) and it is their first loss with nine-plus runs since May 18, 2024 at Miami...Since the beginning of 2024, the Mets are 29-2 in games they have scored at least nine runs.
- Francisco Lindor (3-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R): Hit his seventh lead-off home run of the season, which ties Curtis Granderson (2015 and 2016) for the all-time Mets single-season record...His nine lead-off home runs as a member of the Mets are the fourth-most in Mets history, trailing only José Reyes (21), Granderson (21) and Brandon Nimmo (14).
- Juan Soto (1-4, HR, RBI, BB, R): Hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, his 30th of the season.
- Francisco Alvarez (2-4, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R): Tied his season-high with four RBI (also: August 12 vs. ATL)...Hit a game-tying single in the second inning and a three-run homer in the eighth.
- Brooks Raley (0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, BB, K): Allowed an RBI double to Donovan Solano in the seventh, snapping his 18.1 scoreless inning streak over 21 appearances (9/21/23-8/10/25).
Newsday: “On Beatles Night at Citi Field, the Mets again got
no help from their bullpen in an 11-9 loss to the Mariners before 41,200 on
Friday. With the Mets holding a 6-4 lead
built in part on the strength of two home runs by Francisco Lindor, Tyler
Rogers gave up a run in the sixth and Ryan Helsley and Brooks Raley combined to
allow five runs in the seventh. It was a long and winding road to the Mets’ 14th
loss in their last 16 games.”
NY Daily News: “The Mets have blown a lead in seven
consecutive games and lost six of them…The Mets revamped their bullpen with
last month’s trades for Rogers and Helsley, hoping to shorten games and take
pressure off of their starters. But Friday marked the third consecutive blown
save by Helsley, who also squandered a lead and took the loss in Thursday’s 4-3
defeat by the Atlanta Braves.”
NY Post: “Mendoza’s flailing team only maintained a
half-game lead for the final NL wild-card spot because the Reds flushed an 8-1
advantage and lost to the scorching Brewers in Cincinnati.”
Brian Joura Mets360: “Sean Manaea gave up runs in each of
the first three innings. But he rebounded to notch scoreless frames in both the
fourth and fifth. So, Carlos Mendoza opted to remove him after five innings and
86 pitches.”

- Rick Reed (1964)
- Roger Cedeno (1974)
Transactions:
New York Mets sold Gerry Arrigo to the Cincinnati Reds on August 16, 1966.
New York Mets signed free agent Jose Reyes on August 16, 1999.
New York Mets traded Mark Little to the Arizona Diamondbacks for P.J. Bevis on August 16, 2002.
1996 | Due to a conflict with the Republican National Convention in San Diego, the first major league game ever played outside of the United States or Canada takes place in Monterrey, Mexico, with the 'home team' Padres out-slugging the Mets at Estadio de Beisbol, 15-10. Fernando Valenzuela, a native of the Mexican city of Navojoa, opens the three-game series and goes six innings to get the victory for the first-place Friars. |
2007 | Jose Reyes becomes the first infielder and tenth player overall in the modern era (post-1898) to steal sixty bases in three consecutive seasons. The Mets shortstop, who will swipe 78 sacks this season, steals second base in the second inning for the second time in a 10-7 loss to the Pirates at PNC Park. |
1987: The wind is blowing out at Wrigley Field as the Mets pound the Cubs, 23 - 10, setting a club record for runs scored in a game.
1996: San Diego OF Steve Finley homers in the Padres game against the Mets in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. By doing so, he becomes the first major league player to have homered in three different countries, having previously hit four-baggers in the USA and Canada. The Padres win the first regular-season game to be played outside of the US or Canada, 15 - 10, belting four homers. Leadoff batter Tony Gwynn is 3 for 5 and will repeat it tomorrow in the 7 - 3 loss to the Mets.
2001: The Padres defeat the Mets, 6 - 5. San Diego rookie P Jeremy Fikac gets the win in his major league debut as he strikes out the side in his only inning. In 2004, he will also get a win his final major league appearance in an otherwise unremarkable career.
2017 - Short of infielders because of injuries, the Mets start catcher Travis d'Arnaud at third base in their game against the Yankees. However, as d'Arnaud has never played the position professionally, manager Terry Collins decides to switch him and starting second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera every time a right-handed batter comes up, in order to minimize the chance of a ball actually being hit towards the improvized infielder. The two end up exchanging positions 18 times as the Yankees prevail, 5 - 3, making for an unusual boxscore that reads "Cabrera 2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b" and "d'Arnaud 3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b-2b-3b".
2018: Just two weeks after suffering a 25 - 4 loss, the worst in team history, the Mets turn around and defeat the Phillies, 24 - 4, in the first game of a doubleheader, setting team records for runs and hits (25). Coming on the back of a 16 - 5 win over the Orioles the day before, the win also marks the first time they score at least 15 runs in back-to-back games. Jose Bautista, who does not even start the game, leads the offense with a grand slam and 7 RBIs. However, the Mets return to form in the nitecap, losing 9 - 6.
2021 - By hitting a triple for the Mets, Pete Alonso ends a record streak of 68 games without the team getting a three-base hit.
