Brian Joura Mets360: "David Peterson was terrific over eight innings and the Mets slugged four home runs for an easy 8-1 win over the Nationals Tuesday night in Washington D.C. in a game that took just 2:20 to complete. It’s the Mets’ third-straight win and brings their record this season versus the Nats to 6-2."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "It was a stellar performance, and the type the Mets have rarely seen since their rotation was decimated in June. Despite double-digit strikeouts, Peterson’s performance wasn’t flashy or overly dominating. Instead, it was efficient and methodical. Peterson used his sinker to induce ground-balls, and a changeup below the zone got whiffs."

NY Post: David Peterson rebounds with eight-inning gem as Mets roll to third straight win. "Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, Juan Soto and Jeff McNeil all homered as the Mets continued their success against the Nationals, with a sixth victory in eight games against them this season."

NY Post: Jeff McNeil has another big night in Mets’ blowout victory: ‘Super consistent’. "Surrounded by bats that have been erratic, he has been unrelenting and might have reached his best groove of the season, going 8-for-17 with a homer and two doubles in his past four games."

Laura Albanese Newsday: "That, for now, was enough to provide a little emotional boost after Mendoza announced Tuesday that Francisco Alvarez may be lost for the season. Alvarez sustained a UCL sprain in his right thumb sliding into second base in their win over the Mariners Sunday and will be shut down for 10-14 days before the Mets determine whether he can play through the pain or if he’ll need season-ending surgery. The surgery, in any case, is inevitable, Mendoza said; it’s just about the timing."

1963
In his first major league start, Grover Powell blanks the Phillies in the Mets' 4-0 victory at Connie Mack Stadium. The shutout will be the only big league win for the 21 year-old right-hander, who after pitching four more scoreless innings in his next appearance will appear to lose his effectiveness when he is struck in the face by a line drive hit by Pittsburgh first baseman Donn Clendenon.
1985
Dwight Gooden, going the distance in the Mets' 3-0 victory over San Francisco at Shea Stadium en route to his 13th consecutive win, whiffs 16 batters to become the first National League pitcher to strike out 200 or more batters in each of his first two seasons. The 20 year-old sophomore, who improves his record to 19-3 with his sixth shutout of the year, matches the feat accomplished by Herb Score of the Indians in the American League in 1955 and 1956.

1989
It's a busy day on the trading block for the Mets as they send popular outfielder Mookie Wilson to the Blue Jays for pitcher Jeff Musselman and minor leaguer Michael Brady. New York also gets Frank Viola from the Twins for pitchers Rick Aguilera, David West, and Kevin Tapani and two minor leaguers.
1998
At Shea Stadium, Cardinal first baseman Mark McGwire becomes the first player in major league history to hit fifty home runs in three consecutive seasons. Mac's seventh-inning solo shot, the second of back-to-back round-trippers off Willie Blair, helps to defeat the Mets, 2-0.

1989Howard Johnson hits his 30th home run of the season in the Mets' 5 - 4 loss to the Dodgers and joins Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays as the only players to achieve 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in two different seasons.
