Press Release: Yogi Berra’s Hall of Fame Plaque to Visit His Museum & Learning Center in Montclair, N.J.

-- Sept. 21 Event Will Celebrate Anniversary of Berra’s 100th Birthday -- (COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Yogi Berra became a legend thanks to his championship play and homespun wit.   In this the year of his 100th birthday, Berra’s spirit will once again inspire fans at a historic event that will feature an appearance by his Hall of Fame plaque.   Berra, a 1972 Hall of Fame inductee who earned 10 World Series rings with the Yankees, will be honored at Yogi’s Big Catch Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Montclair, N.J. The day-long celebration will feature a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt for the Largest Game of Catch (baseball/softball), including over 1,000 pairs of Yogi fans and some former major league players scheduled to toss-and-catch simultaneously for at least five minutes.   Berra, who was born May 12, 1925, played 19 seasons for the Yankees and Mets after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He won three American League Most Valuable Player Awards as a catcher with the Yankees, powering New York to 10 World Series victories while earning 18 All-Star Game selections. Berra later managed the Yankees and Mets, leading his teams to two league pennants.   Berra debuted in the big leagues with the Yankees on Sept. 22, 1946, and passed away on Sept. 22, 2015.   Fans planning visits to Cooperstown from Sept. 19-21 should be advised that Berra’s bronze plaque will be removed from display during these days to be present at the Sept. 21 event in Montclair, N.J.
