TAMPA, Fla. (August 10, 2025) – The St. Lucie Mets capped an impressive week in Tampa with an 8-5 victory in the Sunday series finale against the Tarpons at the Yankees Complex. The Mets won the series 5-1, winning the last five games after losing the series opener on Tuesday.

It’s the second time in the last four road series the Mets have gone 5-1 after losing the opener. The Mets (65-42) are now 23 games over .500 in a season for the first time as a franchise since the 2012 campaign. Their 31-11 record in the second half is tied for the best in MiLB with Greensboro of the South Atlantic League.

On Sunday, the Mets fell behind 2-0 early. Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek and Ediel Rivera hit RBI singles off Mets starter Jose Chirinos in the second inning.

Chirinos settled down and gave the Mets 5.0 strong innings, allowing just those two runs. He scattered six hits, walked two and struck out two.

Mets center fielder Sam Robertson hit a clutch two-out, two-run single against Tampa starter Allen Facundo in the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2.

The game remained tied until the top of the eighth when the Mets scored twice to take the lead for good. Jeremy Rodriguez and Mitch Voit hit back-to-back singles with one out, with Voit’s single sending Rodriguez to third base. Voit then stole second and Rodriguez scored from third on a throwing error by the catcher Rivera to put the Mets up 3-2. Daiverson Gutierrez added a sac fly to bring home Voit for a 4-2 Mets lead.

The Mets broke the game open by scoring four runs in the ninth. Trey Snyder hit a sac fly, Voit produced a run-scoring single and Randy Guzman capped the frame with a two-run double to make it 8-2.

The Tarpons scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth off Estarlin Escalante, but Escalante was ultimately able to finish off the Tarpons and the game.

Mets reliever Juan Arnaud pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless ball to claim the win.

Rodriguez, Voit, Guzman and Robertson had two hits apiece.

The Mets have won 16 of their last 17 road games and are 16-2 in their last 18 games overall. They are on their fourth winning streak of at least five games in the second half. They lead the FSL East Division second half by 10.5 games with 24 games left.

The Mets are off Monday. They’ll return to the diamond on Tuesday when they start a six-game home series against the Jupiter Hammerheads at Clover Park. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. It’s Silver Sluggers Night at the ballpark.
