Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Mets’ offense went cold in a 4-1 loss to the Charlotte Knights on a warm Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. The Mets still sit in first place of the International League second half standings.
Syracuse (60-54, 29-10) jumped out to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning. After a pair of singles by Gilberto Celestino and Jared Young, Joey Meneses smacked an RBI single to put the Mets ahead, 1-0.
After a handful of scoreless innings by Syracuse starter Nolan McLean, Charlotte (54-59, 18-20) tied the game 1-1 on a solo homer by Dominic Fletcher in the top of the fourth.
The tie remained until the Knights stormed ahead in the top of the seventh inning. Singles by Andre Lipcius and Jacob Gonzalez set the table for a two-run knock by Blake Sabol, putting Charlotte on top, 3-1. Next, an RBI single by Will Robertson extended the lead to 4-1.
Charlotte added an insurance run in the ninth after a solo home run by Blake Sabol, stretching the advantage to 5-1.
On the bump, McLean pitched four innings, only allowed one run, and struck out seven batters.
Syracuse starts a six-game series with the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday night with game one. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
