From the Mets 7 Red Sox 2 Post Game Notes - 9/3/2024:
- Mets: Extended their winning streak to six games, tied for their second-longest winning streak of the season (Also: 4/14 - 4/20).
- David Peterson: Recorded a career-high 11 strike-outs...Became the 24th pitcher in major league history to record 10 or more strikeouts on their birthday and is the first pitcher since Gerrit Cole (15 Ks, 9/8/19) with a double-digit strikeout performance on their birthday...Is the first Met to win on his birthday since Justin Wilson (8/18/20) and the first Mets starter to earn the win on his birthday since Dillon Gee (4/28/12).
- Francisco Lindor: Launched a two-run home run to right field in the third inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.
- Mark Vientos: Blasted a solo home run in the seventh inning to extend the Mets lead to 3-1.
- Pete Alonso: Hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to push the Mets lead to 7-2.
Brian Joura Mets360: "Remember back in May when the Mets lost three straight games in which they hit three home runs because the pitching was so bad? It was something that had happened only four times previously in MLB history. Well, the Mets here in the second half don’t lose when they hit three homers. And that’s what happened Tuesday night, as the Mets beat the Red Sox, 7-2, behind another strong start from David Peterson."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets beat Red Sox for sixth straight win behind Francisco Lindor's big game. "Lindor led the way: 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a steal. He opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the third and added a run-scoring double in the game-sealing, four-run eighth."
NY Post: David Peterson dominates again with 11 strikeout gem in Mets' win. "...David Peterson, who continued his stellar run in the Mets’ sixth straight win, as the lefty allowed just one run over six innings and struck out a career-high 11...He also lowered his season ERA to 2.75 and has been even better in his last seven outings, with a 1.81 ERA — seventh-best in the majors in that span."

From the Nationals 7 Mets 1 - Post Game Notes;
- Mets: Suffered their first loss against Washington at home this season.
- Max Scherzer (5.0 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 5 K): Left today's game feeling fatigued on his left side.
- Eduardo Escobar (1-2, HR, RBI, R, BB): Slugged a solo homer in the third to put the Mets on the board.
- Bryce Montes De Oca (0.2 IP, H, BB, K): Threw 0.2 scoreless inning in his major league debut.
NY Post: Mets ripped by Nationals after Max Scherzer exits with ‘left side fatigue’. "The Mets’ bullpen kept the 1-1 tie intact until the eighth inning, when Lane Thomas cracked a solo home run off Adam Ottavino for a 2-1 Washington lead. Entering Saturday, Ottavino had allowed just two earned runs across 18 innings since the All-Star break. The Nationals (46-87) broke the game open with a five-run ninth inning against Adonis Medina."
Newsday: "While he was in the game, Scherzer was good. He allowed one run — on Luis Garcia’s homer in the first — three hits and a walk, striking out five. After the Nationals put four runners on base in the opening three innings, Scherzer settled in to retire his final seven batters."

ESPN.com: Alonso HR in 10th lifts Mets over Yanks after Seaver tribute. Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer leading off the 10th inning Thursday night, lifting the New York Mets to a come-from-behind, 9-7 win over the Yankees in the final Subway Series game of the season between the teams. The Mets came back from deficits of 4-0 and 7-4 at Citi Field to earn a split of the six-game season series, all of which was played over the last six days.
NY Post: Mets walk off on Pete Alonso’s blast for wild comeback win over Yankees. "In a kooky ninth inning, Aroldis Chapman walked Jeff McNeil leading off and balked pinch-runner Billy Hamilton to second. Hamilton took off for third on the next pitch and was thrown out by Kyle Higashioka. The ensuing batter, J.D. Davis, cleared the center-field fence to tie it 7-7."
Mike Vaccaro NY Post: This was perfect way for Mets to honor Tom Seaver. "The Mets tipped their caps before the game, saluting the No. 41 circle in distant left field. They stood solemnly during a video tribute. And in the finest touch of all, they all dabbed some dirt on their right knee, even though most of them had no idea why, even though none of them could possibly understand how emotional a connection that would create, a message to fans who spent Thursday busily sifting through their memories."
Year: 2019; Game #138; Tuesday; Sep 3, NYM 10 @ WSN; 11; boxscore; WP: Guerra; LP: Diaz; Time: 03:17; NIGHT; Attendance: 20,759; Record: 70-68; Standings: 4; Games up/behind: 15; L-wo;
Baseball Reference: Down by 6 runs against the Mets in the 9th inning, the Nationals mount the biggest comeback in team history as they score 7 times to pull off an improbable an 11 - 10 win. Leading 10 - 4 after scoring five times in the top of the 9th, the Mets decide to rest closer Edwin Diaz and instead send in Paul Sewald to close the books. He allows two runs while getting just one out before being replaced by Luis Avilan, who loads up the bases with a single. That's when manager Mickey Callaway calls upon Diaz to face pinch-hitter Ryan Zimmerman. Zimmerman hits a two-run double, then after drawing a full count, Kurt Suzuki parks a pitch in the left field seats for a walk-off three-run homer. Now five games back in the wild card standings, the Mets may well be effectively eliminated from postseason contention as a result of this heartbreaking loss.
