With the game tied at 2 in the 9th, the Yankees scored two off Mets starter Al Leiter on a single by Luis Soto as the throw hit Jorge Posada at the plate allowing Scott Brosius to also score.
Leiter gave it all he could as he pitched into the 9th throwing 142 pitches. He struck out the first two batters in the innings before allowing the walk to Posada and the Scott Brosius single which set up Luis Soto's Series winning hit.
In the bottom of the 9th, Benny Agbayani walked with one out. After Edgardo Alfonzo, who struggled in the series hitting .143 (3 for 21), flew out, Mike Piazza gave the ball a ride to deep center but it died right before the warning track and the Yanks were World Champs for the 3rd year in a row.
