Mets win a tight and gritty NLDS Game 5 to win the series and head to the 2015 NLCS. Daniel Murphy's 6th inning homer was the deciding run in the Mets 3-2 win as Murph was involved in all 3 run. Before the homer he doubled in the Mets 1st run in the 1st and stole 3rd in an amazin' heads up play...
Kevin Davidoff NY Post: "Mets fans will remember Murphy’s fourth-inning single just as fondly, if not more so. That’s because, when Lucas Duda walked one out later, Murphy pounced: With the Dodgers, up 2-1, playing the lefty-swinging Duda on a shift to pull to the right side, Murphy calmly trotted to second, at which point he turned on the jets and sprinted to third. The Dodgers, caught sleeping, had no one covering the bag and therefore no play. Murphy tagged from third and scored the tying run on Travis d’Arnaud’s fly to right field."
NY Post: "DeGrom somehow survived six innings, after a turbulent stretch to begin the game, allowing two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Noah Syndergaard made his first career relief appearance in the seventh and walked Adrian Gonzalez on a 100-mph heater with two outs before striking out the seemingly unstoppable Justin Turner on a filthy curve."
Mike Vaccaro: It's no mirage: Collins clears every hurdle with a magic touch. "Finally came Familia’s delivery, and Kendrick wouldn’t have been close if he’d been using Bamm-Bamm Rubble’s bat, and the Mets had their 3-2 win in this game and in this series, and the dugout was clearing and the bullpen was clearing and they met just west of the pitcher’s mound in a 25-man embrace, hearing the greatest sound you can hear when you’re 3,000 miles away from home: Silence. Blissful, beautiful, bountiful silence."

Mets bang out 14 hits with 4 homers as they win a 12-5 laugher against the Cards in St. Louis. Carlos Beltran hits two homers to lead the way and David Wright gets his 1st post season homer. Oliver Perez allows 5 runs in 5.2 innings and the Mets pen throws 3.1 scoreless innings in the win.
NY Post: "Last night, the Mets were desperate to both score and win, and their offense ensured the latter. In a critical Game 4 at Busch Stadium – a game that could have seen them fall back three games to one in the NLCS – the Mets scored the most runs in their playoff history [editor's note - a record broken in the 2015 NLDS], earning a 12-5 triumph over the Cardinals and evening the series at 2-2 heading into...Game 5."
NY Post: Amazin' Defense Bailed out Perez. "Two plays in particular stand out. The first came in the second inning. With one out, runners on first and third and no score, Juan Encarnacion ripped a grounder down the left-field line past David Wright’s glove. Scott Rolen scored from third, but when Ronnie Belliard tried to race from first to third, Endy Chavez made a beautiful throw to Wright to nail Belliard...Jose Valentin made the second play of the night for the Mets...Last night, Cardinals pinch hitter Chris Duncan came up in the fourth inning with Belliard on second base. Duncan hit a grounder hard up the middle. Valentin moved toward second base, made a nice backhand stab, turned and made a strong throw to first to get Duncan out and end the inning."

Mets come back from a Game 3 series loss scoring 7 runs in the 1st two innings to take a 3-1 lead in the series. After the Cards took a 2-0 lead in the 1st on Jim Edmonds 2-run homer, the Mets answered right back 5 doubles in the bottom of the inning to go up 4-2. Mets scored 3 in the 2nd highlighted by Todd Zeile's bases loaded double. Bobby Jones ran into trouble in the 4th allowing 3 runs to make it 8-6 but Glendon Rusch threw 3 scoreless and Matt Franco and Armando Benitez threw a scoreless inning each to secure the win.

Mets fall to an 0-3 hole against the Braves as Tom Glavine beats Al Leiter in a pitcher's duel. Braves scored the only run of the game in the 1st thanks to tow Mets errors. Gerald Williams led off the game with a walk, Brett Boone was safe at 1st on an errant throw by Al Leiter that pulled John Olerud off the bag, and when Williams and Boone attempted a double steal, Mike Piazza's throw to 2nd went to CF allowing Williams to score.
Mets got 7 hits and 1 walk off Glavine but only two runners got past 2nd. Al Leiter K'd with 2 out and men on 1st and 3rd in the 2nd after two straight singles and Rey Ordonez grounded out in the same situation in the 4th.

In one of the greatest Post Season Games in Baseball History, the Mets and Astros played a 4 hour and 42 minute war in a battle for the National League Pennant. The Mets win and they go to the World Series, the Astros and they get to Game 7 with their Ace and Mets Nemesis, Mike Scott on the mound.
Down 3-0 in the 9th, the Mets finally get to Bob Knepper who had thrown a 2-hit shutout over the first 8. Lenny Dykstra led off with a pinch hit triple, Mookie singled him in, Kevin Mitchell grounded out sending Mookie to 2nd. Keith Hernandez doubled making it 3-2 and after Dave Smith came in and walked Carter and Strawberry, Ray Knight's Sac Fly tied it up.
It stayed that way until the 14th when Wally Backman singled in Strawberry to give the Mets a 4-3 lead. Jesse Orosco relieved Roger McDowell who threw 5 scoreless. After striking out Bill Doran, Orosco gave up a game tying homer to Billy Hatcher. After a scoreless 15th, the Mets broke through again as Ray Knight drove in Strawberry and two more runs followed on a wild pitch and a Jesse Orosco RBI single.
Mets needed the extra runs as Houston rallied in the bottom of the 16th. Glenn Davis singled to make it 7-6 with runners on 1st and 2nd. Story goes that Keith Hernandez came into the mound and told Gary Carter that "If you throw one more fastball, I'll gonna beat you up right here" (or something like that). Carter stayed with breaking pitches, Orosco fanned Kevin Bass and the New York Mets had won a marathon Game 6 in Houston.
Phil Pepe NY Daily News: "For gripping drama, rollercoaster emotions, extended intensity nothing could match the 16 innings and 4 hours and 42 minutes of Wednesday's 7-6 victory by the Mets over the Astros."

Tom Seaver and Mike Cuellar locked up in a pitcher's duel in Game 4. Donn Clendenon's solo homer gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. Seaver made it stand up until the 9th when Frank Robinson and Boog Powell singled to give the O's 1st and 3rd with just 1 out. Brooks Robinson blooped one in Right Field that would have fallen in except for the amazin', sliding catch by Ron Swoboda. On the play, Frank Robinson scored from 3rd to tie the game at 1. In the 10th, Jerry Grote led off with a double, Al Weis was walked intentionally as J.C. Martin came up to bat for Tom Seaver. In a bunt attempt, Orioles pitcher Pete Richert's throw hit Martin. Rod Gaspar, in to run for Grote came home with the winning run.
