Year: 2024; NLDS Game #3; Tuesday; Oct 8, NYM 7 Vs PHIL 2; boxscore; WP: Sean Manaea; LP: Aaron Nola; Time: 2:55; Night; Attendance: 44,093; Record: 2-1; W;

Francisco Lindor SS: 1 for 5; 2B; 1 RBI; 1 K; Mark Vientos 3B: 2 for 4; 1 K; Harrison Bader PR-CF: 0 for 1; SB; 1 run; Brandon Nimmo LF: 0 for 2; 2 runs; 2 walks; 1 K; Pete Alonso 1B: 1 for 2; HR; 2 runs; 1 RBI; 2 walks; 1 K; Jose Iglesias 2B-3B: 2 for 4; 2 RBIs; Jesse Winker DH: 1 for 3; HR; 1 run; 1 RBI; J.D. Martinez PH-DH: 0 for 0; 1 run; 1 walk; Starling Marte RF: 1 for 3; 2 RBIs; 1 K; Luisangel Acuña 2B: 0 for 1; 1 K; Tyrone Taylor CF-RF: 0 for 4; 2 Ks; Francisco Alvarez C: 1 for 4; 3 Ks; Sean Manaea, W (1-0): 7 innings; 1 run; 1 ER; 3 hits; 2 walks; 6 Ks; Phil Maton: 0.2 inning; 1 run; 1 ER; 1 hit; 1 walk; 1 K; Ryne Stanek: 1.1 innings; no runs; 1 hit; 1 K;

Anthony DiComo Mets.com: With heavy heart, masterful Manaea lifts Mets in Game 3 "Only Manaea knew that he had just delivered the game of his life at a moment of mourning. Earlier Tuesday, before National League Division Series Game 3, Manaea lost his aunt Mabel. He didn’t have time to grieve. He needed to pitch. And that is precisely what Manaea did, throwing seven of the finest innings of his career in a 7-2 win over the Phillies that pushed the Mets to the cusp of the NL Championship Series."

Brian Joura Mets 360: " Pete Alonso gave the Mets the lead with a solo homer in the second inning and Jesse Winker doubled the advantage with a solo homer in the fourth."

Tim Healey Newsday: Sean Manaea's gem, Pete Alonso's homer lift Mets past Phillies in NLDS Game 3. "In the sixth, Manaea began to teeter, issuing walks to Schwarber and Turner to put two on with no outs...But Mendoza stuck with his top starter, and Manaea rewarded him. He struck out Harper on three pitches...Manaea recorded his final six outs on just 13 pitches. Two of them — with two on and one out in the sixth — came on Nick Castellanos’ line drive to Iglesias for a double play."

NY Post: Mets come up with three big two-out hits in key Game 3 victory. "Starling Marte, Jose Iglesias and Francisco Lindor, who drove in the final five runs Tuesday, all connected on hits with two outs — with those once-insurance runs morphing into the difference-making ones after the Phillies ended the shutout bid with two in the eighth."

NY Post: Mets’ sparkling defensive gems outshine Phillies’ flops in NLDS Game 3. "With one out in the fourth, Alec Bohm smacked a drive that one-hopped the wall in right-center...It hit the warning track, then the wall and then Taylor’s hand, wheeling and making a throw that bounced once before reaching Lindor at second base. Lindor waited for the ball to reach him, the throw hopping over a sliding Bohm and Lindor catching it with his glove attached to Bohm’s helmet for a nifty tag."

NY Post: Piazza was unable to participate in the demolition because a cortisone shot for his aching left thumb went awry and caused the digit to swell to disproportionate size yesterday. Piazza was unable to move the thumb, keeping him out of the lineup...But with 56,180 screaming fans cheering them on, the Mets compensated for Piazza’s absence by hammering out nine runs on 11 hits, including all six runs in the sixth against a tormented Arizona bullpen...John Olerud, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs on the night, and Hamilton each had two-RBI hits in the inning off the veteran Plesac. Rickey Henderson and Roger Cedeno also had RBI hits in the inning."

National Pastime.com: The Mets' 9-2 victory over the Reds in Game 3 of the NLCS will best be remembered for the Pete Rose and Bud Harrelson brawl started when the New York feisty shortstop takes exception to 'Charlie Hustle's' hard slide at second base to break up a double play. After the fight, the Mets, fearing a forfeit due to their fans' rowdy behavior, send an emissary, consisting of Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, Cleon Jones, Tom Seaver, and Rusty Staub, out to left field to quell the crowd's unrest.
