Mets: Fell to the Athletics, 11-6, in the second game of their three-game series...Have dropped a season-high four straight games...Allowed a season-high 11 runs which is also the most they have allowed in a single game against the Athletics (previous high: 10, 9/24/22 at Oakland)...New York has lost five of their last six home games against the Athletics after they had won eight of their first 10 matchups against the Athletics in Queens.

  • Mets batters slugged three home runs today...Prior to today, the Mets had only one home run over their previous five games...Marked the second time this season the Mets have had a three-homer game (also: 4/3 at San Francisco).
  • Mets pitchers allowed three home runs in a game for the second time this season (also: 3/26 vs. Pittsburgh)...In all other games combined, Mets pitchers only surrendered four long balls.

Francisco Alvarez (2-4, HR, RBI, RBI): Launched a solo home run to center field in the sixth, his fourth home run of the season...Joins Gary Carter (6, 1988), Todd Hundley (1995, 7, 1996), Mike Piazza (2001, 5, 2002) and John Buck (6, 2013) as the only Mets catchers with four or more home runs through the team's first 15 games of a season.

Jorge Polanco (1-5, HR, RBI, R): Hit his first career home run as a Met, a solo shot to right field to trim the Mets' deficit to one.

Bo Bichette (2-3, HR, 3 RBI, R, 2 BB): Hit his first career home run as a Met, a two-run shot to right field in the fifth.

Craig Kimbrel (1.0 IP, H, 2 K): Struck out two over a scoreless inning in his Mets and 2026 debut.

Brooks Raley (1.0 IP, BB, K): Has yet to allow a run through his first six appearances of the season (5.2 IP).

Kodai Senga (2.1 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 HR): Allowed a career-high seven runs over a career-low 2.1 innings.

Brian Joura Mets360: "Senga gave up a bases-loaded walk and a three-run homer, two things he’d never done before in the majors. After being handed a 1-0 lead, Senga exited in the third inning with the score 7-1."

NY Post: "Sloppy defense didn’t help and Luke Weaver imploded late, but this one was mostly on Senga in his team’s 11-6 loss at Citi Field amid plenty of boos that gave the Mets a four-game losing streak."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets go from bad to worse in another loss to A’s. "After going down 7-1, there was fight from the Mets. They scored five runs after the fifth to cut the deficit to one run, starting with Bo Bichette’s first home run with the Mets, a two-run shot off left-hander Jacob Lopez in the fifth. Francisco Alvarez hit one to lead off the sixth, then it was Jorge Polanco’s turn to homer, doing so off Justin Sterner in the top of the seventh, making it 7-6."

David Lennon Newsday: "There were balls kicked around, bases uncovered (another mental gaffe by Francisco Lindor) and a bullpen blow-up, courtesy of the suddenly combustible Luke Weaver. The reeling reliever spoiled a brewing comeback by turning a one-run, eighth-inning deficit into an 11-6 rout by the A’s, the fourth straight loss by the Mets."

1962

In front of 40,000 fans, the expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, along with broadcasters and other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the enthusiastic crowd as they drive by.

1986

In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

2009

A pair of tickets for the Mets home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats were owned by Bernard Madoff, who is in jail after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.
