AP Sports: "Francisco Lindor homered twice and tripled off the top of the fence, driving in six runs as the New York Mets pulled away for a 14-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Monday night."

Five players had 3-hit games, including the top three hitters in the lineup and the guys batting seventh and eighth. Every starter had a hit. Additionally, the Mets drew six walks in the game. They went 4-11 with RISP. Just a great night from the offense."

NY Post: "Taylor increased his trade value by homering for the second straight day — a three-run shot in the seventh — before the Mets tacked on another five runs in the eighth. Thomas exited with the most runs allowed by a major league reliever in more than five years, as the last-place Mets improved to 5-3 this season against the first-place Braves, buoyed by three-hit efforts from Ewing, Taylor, Semien and Bo Bichette."

Mets: Took the opening game of their three-game set with the Braves, 14-3...Have won consecutive games for the first time since July 8-9...Improved to 4-4 after the All-Star break...Recorded a season-high-tying 19 hits (also: 5/18 at WSH)...Marks the first time since July 14, 2017 that they have recorded as many hits at home...Their 14 runs scored were their second-most in a game this season and their most scored at Citi Field since August 29, 2025 vs. Miami.

Zac Thornton (6.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, 5 K, HR): Earned his second win after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three runs while striking out five...He has completed at least 6.0 innings in each of his last four starts...He joins Nolan McLean as the only other pitcher to accomplish the feat...Has completed 6.0 innings and allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last four starts.

Tyrone Taylor (3-5, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R): Singled in the sixth and eight innings and launched a three-run homer to left field in the seventh inning...Since being activated off of the Injured list, has slashed .410/.477/.974 (16-39) with six home runs, four doubles and a 1.451 OPS.

A.J. Ewing (3-5, 2 R, SB): Singled in the first, third and sixth innings...Marks his seventh multi-hit game this month and three of those performances have come over his last eight games...His 65 hits are the third-most by an NL rookie since his call up on May 12.

Cubs’ slugger Dave Kingman, who hit a pair of round-trippers yesterday, becomes the sixth player in major league history to hit three home runs in one game twice in a season. ‘’Sky King’s’ trio of long flies isn’t enough when Chicago drops the Shea Stadium contest to the Mets, 6-4.

1993

“That wasn’t even a big monkey that was on my back. It was a zoo. The guys treated it like I had won a World Series game for them.” - Anthony Young, commenting on his teammates’ reaction to the end of his 27-game losing streak.

After a shaky one-inning relief performance, in which he gives up the go-ahead run, Anthony Young’s record-setting 27-game losing streak comes to an abrupt end when the Mets score twice in the ninth for a 5-4 walk-off victory over Florida at Shea Stadium. The infamous streak, which covered a span of 81 appearances over two seasons, included 14 losses as a starter and 13 as a reliever.

1996

Darryl Strawberry’s 300th career round-tripper is a dramatic ninth inning, two-run dinger which gives the Yankees a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Royals. The 34 year-old ‘Straw’ will finish his stormy 17-year major league career with 335, hitting 75% of his round-trippers as a member of New York’s other team, the Mets.

2011

With their 10-9 victory, the visiting Mets complete a four-game sweep in Cincinnati for the first time in franchise history. The Great American Ball Park victory is especially rewarding because Carlos Beltran, the team’s best offensive player, was traded to San Francisco during the series.

2012

Ike Davis drives in all of the runs in the Mets’ 6-3 loss in Arizona when he becomes the ninth player in franchise history to hit three home runs in a game. The New York first baseman joins Steve Finley (2004, Diamondbacks), Eddie Murray (1980, Orioles), and Clyde McCullough (1942, Cubs) as only the fourth player in baseball history to account for all three of his team’s runs with solo homers in a defeat.

Baseball Reference:

1963: The Mets' 8 - 2 loss at Houston is their 22nd straight away from the Polo Grounds, and matches the major-league record set by the 1890 Pirates.

1970: Donn Clendenon sets a club record by driving in seven runs as the Mets beat the Giants, 12 - 2. A sacrifice fly and a pair of three-run homers does it. Jim McAndrew is the winner.

1992 - In the Mets' 8 - 6 win over the Phils, Howard Johnson suffers a hairline fracture of his wrist. He'll go on the disabled list on August 3rd and miss the rest of the season.

2015: For the second time this year, Mets reliever Jenrry Mejia tests positive for a banned steroid, a few weeks after completing an 80-game suspension. This time, he is suspended for an entire season.
