On Sunday August 2, 2026, the Mets claimed Catcher Shawn Ross on waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates and optioned him to AAA Syracuse. The26 year old minor league, college and Foreign league Glove first veteran catcher has thrown out 33% of base runners over the years. That compares to Luis Torrens' 37% and Hayden Senger's 32 % caught stealing rates. He is likely insurance in case one of the Mets major league catchers is traded at the deadline. He still has all 3 of his options available.
