FLUSHING, NY, August 2, 2026 - The New York Mets acquired OF Aidan Smith from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for RHP Freddy Peralta...Smith, 22, has appeared in 59 games across three minor league affiliates in the Rays organization this season, hitting .209/.281/.391 with 20 extra-base hits and 40 RBI. In 280 career minor league games, the Tulsa, OK, native has slashed .246/.344/.416 with 56 doubles, nine triples, 36 home runs, 160 RBI and 104 stolen bases. He was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft out of Lovejoy High School in Lucas, TX. The 6-1, 190-pounder was part of the trade package that sent OF Randy Arozarena to the Rays.
Smith has been assigned to the Mets High-A affiliate, Brooklyn.
Baseball America said this about Smith: "...a standout defender who can certainly stick in center field and provide value with his legs, glove and arm, all of which grade as at least plus tools...He hits the ball hard enough...but he doesn’t hit the ball often enough. In 49 games this season with High-A Bowling Green, Smith is striking out north of 32% of the time." (stats below)
He was the 15th ranked Rays Prospect by Baseball America at the time of the trade. MLB Pipeline now has him as the Mets 12th Ranked Prospect.
