FLUSHING, NY, August 2, 2026 - "The New York Mets have announced that they have acquired INF Émilien Pitre, OF Aidan Smith and RHP Gary Gill Hill from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for RHP Freddy Peralta...Pitre, 23, has appeared in 88 games between Double-A Montgomery and High-A Bowling Green, hitting .308/.438/.447 with 28 extra-base hits and 46 RBI. The Canadian-born infielder has appeared in 227 career minor league games, primarily at second base, where he has hit .285/.392/.414 with 136 runs, 48 doubles, eight triples, 14 home runs, 123 RBI, 53 stolen bases and an .805 OPS. The 5-11, 185-pounder was originally selected by the Rays in the second round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Kentucky."
Pitre has been assigned to the Mets Double-A affiliate, Binghamton.
Positions: Second Baseman and Shortstop
Full Name: Émilien Joyal Pitre
Baseball America said this about Pitre: "Pitre has always been adept at getting on base...Pitre doesn’t swing at pitches out of the strike zone, and he rarely misses when he swings. His 18% walk rate this season ranks among MiLB leaders, and he walks almost twice as often as he strikes out...Pitre’s still not physically imposing, but his improved strength has helped him become a line-drive spray hitter who can yank a homer or hit the ball hard enough to find the gaps between outfielders."
Baseball America did not have Pitre as one of the Rays top 30 prospects. MLB Pipeline now lists Pitre as the Mets 15th ranked prospect.
MLB Pipeline gave him these scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 40 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40
He's coming off a hot July where he slashed .352/.472/.535.
