Mets erupt late for 7-2 victory at Jupiter Lanthier Ks 9 in 3.2 innings
JUPITER, Fla. (August 13, 2026) - The St. Lucie Mets scored seven runs over the final three innings to come from behind and beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 7-2 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The Mets snapped a four-game losing streak. Jupiter leads the series 2-1.
The Mets received a short yet dominant start from Ethan Lanthier, who is on the road back from Tommy John surgery. Lanthier struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings. The only hit and run he allowed was a homer to Echedry Vargas, who hit his third long ball in the last two games and now is tied for the FSL lead with 19 homers.
The Mets were down 2-0 after six innings and were being held to one hit. The offense started to break loose against reliever Gerinton Mendez in the seventh inning. Ryan Tayman worked a one-out walk and Yovanny Rodriguez hit a single to pick up the Mets first hit since their second batter of the game. Bohan Adderley then ripped a RBI double to make it 2-1. Vladi Gómez followed with a run-scoring ground out to plate Rodriguez and tie the game 2-2.
Elian Peña and John Smith III hit back-to-back doubles with one out in the eighth inning to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. The double for Peña extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
Kooper Schulte hit a clutch two-run single in the ninth inning to increase the Mets lead to 5-2. Peña followed that by launching a towering two-run homer to make it 7-2 and ice the game. It was Peña’s third homer of the series and eighth of the season.
Mets reliever Christian Rodriguez followed Lanthier and pitched 3.1 innings of one-run ball to get the win. He struck out three.
Miguel Mejias pitched the final 1.2 innings retiring all five batters he faced, three on strikeouts, to earn his fifth save.
Peña went 2 for 4 with the homer, double, a walk, two RBI and two runs.
Smith III was 2 for 5 with a double.
Tayman walked three times.
