Jacksonville, FL – Thursday night’s game between the Syracuse Mets and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp was suspended due to rain in the top of the fifth inning at VyStar Ballpark, with Jacksonville leading, 3-2.
The game will resume on Friday at 5:05 p.m. with one out in the top of the fifth, Zack Short at third base and Vidal Bruján at the plate with a 2-0 count. A seven-inning game will follow approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game.
Nick Morabito opened the scoring with a leadoff solo home run in the first inning, his 12th homer of the season. Jacksonville answered with two runs in the bottom half, scoring its first on an error before Johnny Olmstead drew a bases-loaded walk for a 2-1 lead.
Syracuse tied the game in the third. Jose Ramos reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball before scoring on Morabito’s groundout.
Jacksonville moved back in front in the fourth. Brendan Jones hit a ground-rule double, stole third and scored on a wild pitch from Brian Metoyer to make it 3-2.
Jonathan Santucci started for Syracuse but was removed during the first inning. Ofreidy Gómez followed and worked through the third before Metoyer entered to begin the fourth.
When play resumes Friday, Syracuse will have the tying run 90 feet away. In the seven-inning game that follows, right-hander Tobias Myers is scheduled to start for the Mets against Jacksonville right-hander Bradley Blalock.
