Brian Joura Mets360: "Zac Thornton started and didn’t have his best stuff...it seemed like he threw too many curves and those curves were not good pitches. He gave up 4 R in 4.2 IP. Thornton has impressed by throwing strikes and keeping the ball in the park and he didn’t do those things quite as well in this game..."

John Harper SNY.TV: "Thornton was hurt early by his defense when Francisco Lindor made an error on the first play of the game, mishandling a routine ball to short. That led to a run and then Thornton gave up a two-run home run in the second inning to right-handed-hitting Javier Sanoja, who pulled a cutter over the wall in left to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead...his pitch count elevated quickly and he was pulled after throwing 94 pitches."

NY Post: "Thornton bounced back with a strong third and again encountered trouble in the fourth, hitting Esteury Ruiz and allowing a single to Griffin Conine to put runners on the corners without an out. But again, at a moment when the game might have become far more lopsided, he allowed just a sacrifice fly before getting out of the inning."

From the Marlins 6 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 8/1/2026: Tyrone Taylor (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R): Put the Mets on the board with a two-run homer in the second...Seven of his 10 home runs this season have come in his last 19 games dating back to July 4."
