Meet the New New York Met RHP Pierson Ohl

On November 2, 2006, the New York Mets claimed Pierson Ohl off waivers from the Colorado Rockies.

The 27 right handed pitcher missed the entire 2026 season due to Tommy John surgery after feeling elbow discomfort in Spring Training.  He is expected to return to action in the Spring of 2027.

Per MLB Trade Rumors: "He began throwing in August in hopes of returning in 2027."

Drafted by the Twins in 2021, he was traded to the Rockies along with 2B Edouard Julien for RHP Jace Kaminska and cash.

In February 2024 Baseball America had Ohl as the 40th ranked Twins prospect saying: "Ohl is a four-pitch righthander, but it’s his low-80s plus changeup that wows scouts. The pitch has plenty of deception and helps his 89-91 mph fastball play up. Ohl’s delivery is funky, but so far he’s shown he can throw enough strikes."

With elite control (1.3 BB/9) and a good K rate (8.5/9) over 5 minor league seasons, 394 innings, coupled with, as Baseball America said, a "funky delivery", he could be a worthwhile low cost waiver claim risk...as long as he can stay healthy. He also has all three minor league options left so the Mets allow him to recover in the minors.

Just like other waiver recent claim, the Mets may try to move him to the AAA roster to free up MLB space.
