Tim Healey Newsday: Mets steal NLDS Game 1 from Phillies with five-run rally in eighth. "A couple of hours into Game 1 of their NL Division Series with the Phillies, the Mets were right where they wanted to be: down by a little headed into the late innings...The Mets had one hit entering the eighth. Then they rallied for five hits and five runs off three Philadelphia relievers in that frame: All-Stars Jeff Hoffman and Matt Strahm plus Orion Kerkering."
NY Post: "Mark Vientos, Brandon Nimmo and pinch hitter J.D. Martinez each stroked an RBI single in the inning and Alonso and Starling Marte drove in the other runs with sacrifice flies."
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Phillies jumped out to an early lead, as Kyle Schwarber hit a leadoff home run against Kodai Senga. But that was the only damage they were able to do until a meaningless run in the ninth."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Kodai Senga throws two solid innings in successful return. "He tossed two innings and allowed one run in the Mets’ 6-2 victory over the Phillies in the first game of the NL Division Series. After allowing a 425-foot home run to his first batter, Kyle Schwarber, he settled in to retire six of seven. Senga threw 31 pitches, allowed just that one hit, walked one and struck out three (two via forkball)."
AP Sports: Mets and Yankees win playoff games on same day for first time in 24 years. "All five previous times the Mets and Yankees won postseason games on the same day came in 1999 and 2000. The most recent was Oct. 11, 2000, when the Yankees evened the AL Championship Series with a 7-1 victory at home over the Seattle Mariners in Game 2, and the Mets beat the Cardinals 6-2 in St. Louis to open their NL Championship Series."

Noah Syndergaard allows just 2 hits over 7 innings but Mets have no answer for Madison Bumgarner who throws a complete game shutout in the 2016 Wild Card Game. Mets take the approach of "being aggressive" against Bumgarner which allows him to keep the pitch count low and get the complete game. Homeplate Ump had a high strike zone all night which helped Thor but hurt both Reed and Familia. Reed was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the 8th but Familia after allowing a double and walk surrendered a 3-run homer to Conor Gillaspie as the Giants eliminated the Mets.

Mets get a big Game 2 win in the 2000 Division Series. After Edgardo Alfonzo's 2-run 9th inning homer gives the Mets a 4-1 lead, J.T. Snow hits a 3-run shot off Armando Benitez in the bottom of the inning to tie it. Undeterred, the Mets take another lead as Jay Payton singles in Darryl Hamilton to put the Mets 5-4 up in the 10th. After winning the tie breaker the night before in Cincinnati, the Mets stormed into Arizona to face Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks. Mets jumed out to a 4-1 lead early thanks to homers by Edgardo Alfonzo and John Olerud. D-Backs tied it up at 4 on a Luis Gonzalez 2-run homer in the 6th. It stayed tied until the 9th when the Mets loaded the bases against Randy Johnson and Buck Showalter brought in Bobby Chouinard to face the top of the Mets order. Dodgers got revenge for their 1988 Game 1 NLCS loss and for David Cone's comments to the NY Daily News after it. Writing a guest column for the paper Cone said that Orel Hershiser was "lucky" the Mets didn't score on him in 8 scoreless innings and compared Jay Howell to a "High School Pitcher". Tommy Lasorda used the column as bulletin-board material to rile up the Dodgers.
Dodgers rode Cone from the bench right from the start scoring in the first on a walk to Mickey Hatcher, a balk, and a Mike Marshall RBI single. Dodgers added 4 more with Mickey Hatcher's 2-run double the big blow. Cone was removed after 2 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits.
Keith Hernandez connected with a 2-run homer in the 4th to make it 5-2 and added an RBI single in the 9th for the only runs off Dodger starter Tim Belcher. Down 6-3, the Mets loaded the bases with 2 outs in the 9th with Game 1 Hero, Gary Carter up but Alejandro Pena got Gary to fly out to right to end it.
