7/31/2026 Box Score: Miami Marlins 5 New York Mets 2
NY Post: "Informed just hours before first pitch that he would be on the mound in place of the scratched Freddy Peralta, Senga reminded everyone he is still on the team while showing off some of the best stuff he has possessed all year."
Anthony DiComo Mets.com: "Eventually, Senga’s success faded; he walked the first two batters of the fifth inning, allowed an RBI double to Jakob Marsee and watched two inherited runs score after he left the game. But Senga’s final line -- four-plus innings, three earned runs in a 5-2 loss to the Marlins -- did not tell an accurate story of his night. The reality is that, pitching for the first time in 13 days, Senga was passable -- at times even dynamic. He was good enough to make one wonder where this version of him has been all along."
AP Sports: "Janson Junk (5-6) earned the win after giving up an unearned run while striking out four over five innings. Pete Fairbanks, the Marlins’ fifth pitcher, threw just seven pitches while earning his 16th save with a perfect ninth."
From the Marlins 5 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 7/31/2026
A.J. Ewing (1-4, RBI): Plated one with an RBI single in the fifth inning...He has recorded a hit in 10 of his last 14 games and collected an RBI in three of his last four contests.
Carson Benge (3-4, 2B): Doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth and eighth innings...Marked his eighth three-hit effort of the season...His eight three-hit games are tied for the sixth-most by a Met through their first 106 career games.
Francisco Lindor (2-3, HR, RBI, R, BB): Launched a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning to cut the Mets' deficit to 5-2.

NY Post: How Mets are handling Clay Holmes with future up in air. "The Mets are hosting the Marlins on Sunday, which is one day before the trade deadline. On Friday, the Mets were not willing to risk the health of Freddy Peralta, who was scratched from his expected start to ensure he will be healthy and valuable for a trade partner. It is possible the Mets take the same tack with Holmes, who is expected to be shopped but is not quite the trade certainty that Peralta is, given his health and given that he theoretically could be extended or given a qualifying offer. Still, Holmes likely will be pitching for another team by the deadline."
