Bo Bichette tacked on another run in the third inning with a solo home run to deep left field, pushing the lead to 4-0. The homer, No. 11 for Bichette, had an exit velocity of 107.5 mph and traveled 422 feet."

Jason Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: "Sean Manaea pitched … well, OKish in that he walked a ton of Guardians and gave up hits to more Guardians but somehow emerged from it only mildly scathed. Daniel Duarte, newly shot up the bullpen pecking order by vacancies, pitched well and so did Nate Lavender, finally getting to make his big-league debut. Kodai Senga even closed out the game in what’s being called an experiment."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "The plan for Senga is to see if he can handle high-leverage relief situations. This would require him to simplify his pitch mix to capitalize on his best offerings and his high velocity. Having traded away nearly the entire back-end of the bullpen, there is room for Senga to step into that role. They brought the idea to him shortly before the game."

The crafty southpaw, the fifth lefty to reach the milestone, limits the Cubs to six hits and a walk in 6.1 innings as the Mets bang out 16 hits and beat Chicago in a nationally televised ESPN Sunday night game, 8-3. |
1980 - Expos manager Dick Williams wins his 1,000th career game, 11 - 5 over the Mets at Olympic Stadium. He is 3rd in wins among active managers behind Gene Mauch and Earl Weaver. The Expos overcome the offense of Doug Flynn, who ties the modern major-league record with three triples. It was last done in the National League by Ernie Banks, in 1966.
2009: Mets rookie P Jonathon Niese sustains a season-ending groin injury covering first base in the 2nd inning of a start against St. Louis. His replacement, Nelson Figueroa, pitches 4 2/3 scoreless innings and hits a two-run triple in a 9 - 0 win.
