Mets complete a busy day at the Trade Deadline. In all 7 Mets, plus a AAA catcher were dealt over the weekend and yesterday. Here's the full recap:
Friday, July 31:
New York Mets traded LHP A.J. Minter to Minnesota Twins for SS Bruin Agbayani and 3B Billy Amick.
August 2nd:
New York Mets traded RHP Freddy Peralta to Tampa Bay Rays for RHP Gary Gill Hill, OF Aidan Smith and SS Émilien Pitre.
August 3rd:
New York Mets traded RHP Huascar Brazobán to Chicago White Sox for RHP Gabe Davis and RHP Zach Franklin.
New York Mets traded LHP Brooks Raley to Philadelphia Phillies for OF John Spikerman and RHP Luke Gabrysh.
New York Mets traded RHP Luke Weaver and cash to Pittsburgh Pirates for SS Sammy Stafura.
Chicago Cubs traded SS Jefferson Rojas to New York Mets for RHP Clay Holmes and LF Tyrone Taylor.
New York Mets traded C Ben Rortvedt to Los Angeles Dodgers for RHP Chayce McDermott.
The Athletic named the Mets one of the Trade Deadline Losers saying: "Time will tell about the fleet of minor-leaguers just acquired by David Stearns. But any time you have to tear down a $365 million roster, forced to overhaul a team expected to compete for a championship in 2026, you qualify as a loser. Those are the rules. Nothing to be done about it. Better luck next year." (Subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Post: "Five of the 11 players the Mets acquired were infielders, but Stearns said that course wasn’t dictated by design. “I think our approach was what’s the best talent?” David Stearns said. “It’s so difficult to know exactly what roles you are going to need at the major league level at any point in time and so our approach was really, what’s the best talent? Who are the players that we think have the ability to be the best major league players?”
Mike Puma NY Post: Mets acquire talented prospects Jefferson Rojas, Sammy Stafura — here’s what they bring to the table. "Rojas, 21, plays third base and shortstop. In 91 games this season in Double-A, he owns an .800 OPS with 15 homers and 17 stolen bases. He becomes the No. 1 Mets prospect, according to MLB Pipeline....Stafura, 21, hails from Cortlandt Manor in Westchester County, where he attended Walter Panas High School — and grew up rooting for the Mets. He was a second-round pick by the Reds in 2023 before he was sent to the Pirates in a deal for Ke’Bryan Hayes at last year’s trade deadline."
Additional Roster Moves will be made today as the Mets recall minor league players to fill the holes left by the trades.

Ken Rosenthal The Athletic: The Braves and others showed trade interest in Jacob deGrom. He opted to stay in Texas. "The Braves informed the Rangers of their desire to land deGrom, according to people briefed on the discussions who were offered anonymity for their candor. The Rangers told deGrom if he wanted to waive his no-trade clause for Atlanta, they would make a deal happen, the source said, but deGrom said no, explaining that he wanted to win in Texas."

1985 | In a 4-1 complete-game victory at Yankee Stadium, White Sox right-hander Tom Seaver becomes the 17th player in major league history to record his 300th victory, limiting the Bronx Bombers to six hits, all singles. 2012 | Mike Baxter sets a team record and ties a National League mark when he walks five times in a nine-inning game in the Mets' 6-4 victory over San Diego at Petco Park. Only five of the 25 pitches thrown to the New York right fielder were strikes, with thirteen of the final 14 being out of the strike zone. |
2016 | Bartolo Colon becomes the first pitcher in the history of the Subway Series to record a victory as a member of both New York clubs when the visiting Mets beats the Bronx Bombers, 4-1. In 2011, Big Bart, in his only season with the Yankees, pitched six strong innings of shutout ball to earn a 5-2 victory over the Big Apple rivals at Citi Field. |
1962: After a doubleheader loss to the Mets, 9 - 1 and 3 - 2 in 13 innings at the Polo Grounds, Reds manager Fred Hutchinson stays in the dugout instead of joining his players in the clubhouse. He then calls the clubhouse and tells the players to be out of there in 15 minutes. They do. Hutch has tickets for Zero Mostel's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, but doesn't use them.
1966 - Pinch-hit home runs by Mets John Stephenson and Ron Swoboda make the difference in New York's 8 - 6 defeat of the Giants at Shea Stadium.
1969 - The Reds win another squeaker, this time 1 - 0 over the Mets at Crosley Field. Jim Maloney (5-2) allows two hits and beats Jerry Koosman.
1997: At Shea Stadium, the Mets top the Cards, 4 - 2, in a rain-interupted game. Rick Reed (10-4) wins his 6th straight, beating Manny Aybar, making his major league debut. Lance Johnson has a pair of RBI triples. Completing an unusual major league-minor league sweep, the Pittsfield Mets top the New Jersey Cardinals (NY-Penn League), 8 - 4, in the earlier 9-inning game.
2001: In a 4 - 2 Mets win at Arizona, Mark Grace ends the game with a ground ball single, which hits pinch runner David Dellucci for the last out as Dellucci is charged with interference. It's the D-backs 7th loss in nine games.
2009: Albert Pujols ends a brief slump with two home runs, including a 10th-inning grand slam, as the Cardinals beat the Mets, 12 - 7. The extra-inning blast comes after Mark DeRosa is plunked by Sean Green with the bases loaded to drive in the go-ahead run; it ties Ernie Banks's National League record of 5 slams in a season, set in 1955, and is his League-leading 36th homer of the year.
